What To Pack For An All-Inclusive Resort Vacation

Don't over pack. Here is everything you need... and it all fits in a carry-on bag.
What To Pack For An All-Inclusive Resort

My favorite type of trip by far is a tropical all-inclusive resort vacation. All you can eat food & drinks. A pool around every corner… and beaches with white sand and turquoise water? I’ll choose it every time. The thing is, it’s very easy to over pack for an all-inclusive resort. I know this well because I used to do it. Now I’m able to live out of a carry-on (and a large tote) for an entire week. It’s definitely doable. You just have to plan in advance. I contact the resort to get a schedule of events ahead of my trip, and plan out any excursions so that I have the appropriate gear. I also research the resort to see what types of facilities and activities are located on the grounds. Like a gym for instance. Let’s dive deeper. Pun intended. Here is everything you need for your all-inclusive resort vacation.

SWIMWEAR

You’ll probably be spending most of your time in the water, or at least lounging nearby. So swimsuits may dominate the majority of the space in your luggage for an all-inclusive resort. Cover ups are also a necessity to comfortably walk around the resort. Include a few cover ups that close in some manner so that you’re able to go to the breakfast and lunch buffets without having to change clothes.

Most resorts that I’ve gone to were lenient with the dress code for breakfast & lunch. As long as you’re not dripping wet. But there will definitely be rules in place for dinner- absolutely NO swimwear. This should be a given though.

DRESSES & JUMPSUITS

My top outfit choices for all-inclusive resort vacations are dresses and jumpsuits. Both are versatile and easy to put together without having to worry about matching pieces. You can wear a cut-out maxi dress or jumpsuit for a day trip into town, or to dinner. A slip dress will work well during the day with a pair of slides. But can also be paired with heels for dinner and the club. Your options are endless. Don’t forget to include something white as your resort may have a White Party. You can always reach out to ask in advance so that you’re prepared.

TWO-PIECE SETS

If you prefer two-piece sets, then bring coordinated sets. Shorts, pants and skirts will work. Don’t have matching sets? Pack a few crop tops and wide leg pants to color block and create your own mix and match set.

SHOES

Don’t overpack shoes. This is important as they take up a lot of space. I usually pack one pair of comfortable heels, along with a couple of cute slides and a pair of sneakers. With this lineup you’ll be ready for any occasion.

BAGS

Straw bags are always a great choice for an all-inclusive resort. I’d suggest a larger sized straw bag so that you’re able to carry everything you need in the daytime- like a book, sunscreen and sunnies… and then a small crossbody bag for night. If you’re not big on straw bags, a transparent or net bag are also cute options. Don’t forget your waist bag. It will come in handy for your wallet and phone when running to breakfast, and for a hands-free excursion experience.

SUNGLASSES

It’s not vacation if you’re not stuntin’ in a fly pair of sunglasses. I suggest taking at least two pairs for a week long trip. Take three pairs if you have extra room, and make sure one is really fun.

VACATION HATS

Hats add another layer of protection from the burning hot sun, especially when making day trips off the resort. Plus they look so chic. You can’t go wrong with a straw fedora or wide brim visor.

ACCESSORIES

Your vacation outfit is not complete without accessories. Don’t over do it though. A pair of hoops, a couple of stacked necklaces and some waist beads should be enough. Add a body chain if you’re feeling bold.

DENIM SHORTS

If you plan on going on any excursions where a dress or jumpsuit won’t work- like four wheelers or hiking/climbing, then take a pair of denim cutoffs. You can bring a pair of jeans if you prefer but they may be too hot. Denim shorts can be worn over a swimsuit to make an outfit as well.

WORKOUT GEAR

If your all-inclusive resort has a gym, then be sure to include some cute workout gear in your luggage. Even if your resort doesn’t have a gym, it’s a good idea to pack a few work out pieces as you can take a few laps around the resort to get in a daily workout. They can also serve double duty for excursions and lounging in your room.

Now you’re all set for your tropical all-inclusive resort vacation. Just add something to sleep in. A few crop tops. Your camera. A book or two. Plenty of sunscreen (try this, this and this). Bug spray (I like this one). Poo-pourri and toiletries, and your beauty essentials. Make sure you check out my travel posts for more vacation outfit inspiration and travel tips.
