I Tried Fenty Hair On My 4C Natural Hair…

I tested these Fenty Hair products on my 4C natural hair to save you the trouble. Here are my first thoughts.
I Tried Fenty Hair On My 4C Natural Hair...

I absolutely adore Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line. The products haven’t failed me yet. So naturally I was excited to hear about the launch of Fenty Hair. But after seeing promo images and more information about the product line up, I was a bit skeptical that any of the products would work for my 4C natural hair. Nonetheless, I purchased a few items with my own coins on early access day in order to test them out and see what’s really good. I decided on the Fenty Hair Homecurl Curl-Defining Cream and The Controlling Type Hair-Thickening Edge Control Gel for starters.

Fenty Hair Review On 4C Natural Hair

First I washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo to ensure it was clear of any other products. Then deep conditioned. I opted to do a 3 Row Comb Wash n’ Go using the Homecurl Cream. Upon opening the product, the first thing I noticed was the scent. The cream has a very strong, sweet, floral scent. Although it smells pleasant, I feel that it’s too overpowering. However, I may be biased as I don’t like heavily fragranced scents in my hair. Anyway, I separated my hair into sections to make styling easier, and proceeded to style my hair. I went through each section, applied a generous amount of the cream, and used the 3 Row Comb to separate and define my coils. I finished the style using an edge brush to gently lay my edges with the Controlling Type Edge Control .

The Fenty Hair Homecurl Cream was extremely moisturizing and gave my hair good definition. But my hair lacked the juiciness that I usually achieve when using a gel. My hair also felt a bit stiff after it completely dried, and looked a little dull. There was minimal shine. My hair started flaking the next day which is an absolute fail in my book. Worst of all, the scent lingered and began to give me a headache after a couple of days. It didn’t dissipate as I hoped it would.

In my opinion, the line up needs a styling gel to use in combination with the cream to properly style type 4 hair. Or even a styling gel with added conditioners so that it may be used alone. The sole gel in the collection- The Gelly Type Strong Hold Gel– is a hard gel for sculpting ponytails and updos… which is a bit repetitive as I feel like the edge control would work for this. Speaking of the Fenty Hair Edge Control, although it did a good job of laying my edges, it didn’t hold through the night. We were having a heat wave and it was extremely humid. So I’ll give the product the benefit of the doubt under the circumstances.

Overall, I wasn’t that impressed with the results after styling my 4C natural hair with the Fenty Hair products. I may give the brand another shot and try out the shampoo and bond builder. But the products I tried ain’t it for me. I filmed a quick tutorial & review to give y’all a visual.
