I’m sure you’ve heard of the soft life trend by now- an online movement encouraging black women to live a life of comfort and ease. The term has become popular amongst the influencer community. But every one has different interpretations of what it means, and that’s okay. This is one of those things that will be unique to an individual’s needs. Some people are taking extreme measures and quitting their jobs. While others are taking baby steps in the form of self care rituals.
For me, a soft life means living a life that is balanced, low stress and worry free- while doing the things that bring me peace and joy. I want this for
me us. Not as a trending movement. But as a lifestyle. I believe a soft life is attainable for anyone if you do the necessary internal (and external) work. Adopt these habits to help manifest a soft life.
Living a soft life begins with putting yourself first and prioritizing your peace. Nothing can disturb your peace of mind unless you allow it to. Make a habit of removing yourself from situations that causes stress, makes you unhappy or otherwise disturbs your peace. End that struggle relationship. Quit the job that you hate. Relocate. It may take some time to muster up the courage but you got this- Faith Over Fear.
Also make a habit of doing things that bring you peace and happiness. Start that business. Take the trip. Designate some time for self care and pampering. Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference.
Setting healthy personal boundaries and sticking to them is an important aspect of a soft life. Be intentional about what you want for your life and what you absolutely will not allow. Make a habit of clearly communicating your boundaries to others when necessary, and removing from your life those individuals who consistently overstep, or don’t respect your boundaries. This is another way of prioritizing your peace.
Make a habit of saying no without explanation and don’t feel guilty about it. People will be upset with you. So what. They will eventually get over it. You are not obligated to do anything that you don’t want to. It circles back to putting yourself first. This habit may be the hardest to adopt, but will get easier with time and practice. So practice often.
