Although it’s supposedly the most wonderful time of the year, the holiday season can also be the most stressful time of the year. Shopping, cooking, cleaning, hosting family, traveling- can all take a toll on not only our mental, but physical well being. It’s a lot. After all of that we definitely need some time to reboot our mind, body and spirits… and relieve some stress. You really should be pampering yourself year round. But if you haven’t been, then now is the perfect time to pamper yourself to destress after the holidays. Here are some post holiday pampering ideas.
DESTRESS WITH A MASSAGE
Getting a massage is the epitome of post holiday pampering. It mwill truly help you to destress and relax. A massage always makes me feel better when I’m feeling beat down and stressed out. That’s why I treat myself to one at least once per season, more if my coins allow for it. The best massage I’ve had to date was at The Mayan Clay Spa during my solo birthday trip to Tulum. It was pricey. But it was worth it. Now I’m not saying you have to spend a grip. There are always great deals on Groupon and it’s where I found my favorite low key massage spot in NYC. You can get a toe curling Deep Tissue or Swedish Massage with Hot Stones for less than 5o bucks. So simply treat yourself to a massage within your budget and regularly treat yourself (as your budget allows) in the new year in beyond.
POST HOLIDAY PAMPERING FACIAL
Old Man Winter can wreak havoc on the skin. And stress only makes things worse. Pampering yourself with a facial will not only help you to destress after the holidays, but will also provide some much needed relief to your winter skin woes. On top of that you’ll be giving your skin some extra TLC that you didn’t even know you needed.
I can vouch for this first hand as my skin has suddenly betrayed me since turning 40. After avoiding acne my entire life, I’m now dealing with hormonal breakouts in the form of painful cystic acne on my chin. I have a top notch skincare routine which includes a great lineup of acne fighting and anti-aging products, some prescription strength. However, my skin still benefits from a professional facial and monthly visits to my derm. The old me would get pampered with a facial on occasion. However, forty year old me is making getting facials a part of my regular pampering routine because when my skin looks good, I feel good. You should do the same.
TREAT YOURSELF TO A MANI & PEDI
After doing all of that cooking, cleaning, wrapping gifts and being on your feet- a mani and pedi is just what the doctor ordered. Especially when the salon has those massage chairs. I absolutely love those. Helps me to relax while they go to work on my feet like Myra from Martin lol. Joking as my feet NEVER looks that bed. But yes, a mani & pedi will serve you well. Choose your favorite color or try something new like a funky design. You can also do your own nails if you prefer to pamper yourself and save some coins.
REFRESH & RENEW WITH A BRAZILIAN WAX
I know you may be wondering why in the world I’d suggest a Brazilian Wax to destress after the holidays. But hear me out. Although getting waxed hurts like hell- the pain is temporary. I find that it hurts a lot less as my waxing session progresses, and I actually start to relax a bit. Especially when I’m having an interesting chat with my waxer. This is probably due to the adrenaline rush and your body releasing epinephrine. I actually feel good after my wax. My lady bits are nice and smooth and once again I’ve survived what I thought would take me out. Maybe this is why I keep going back. If getting hairs snatched is not your thing, then get whatever pampering treatment that makes you feel good.
Never had a Brazilian and want to brave it out? My gift to you for the holidays is a FREE WAX or 50% OFF a Brazilian Wax at European Wax Center (new guests only). I’ll get a $20 Reward with no additional charge to you for the referral. Book your appointment here.
PAMPER YOURSELF WITH AN AT HOME SPA DAY
I know the holiday season can get really expensive and you may not be looking to spend more money after the holiday shopping, especially during a Recession. And that’s okay. You can pamper yourself with an At Home Spa Day. You can also try a DIY Beauty Maintenance Routine that you can incorporate into your schedule whenever you see fit. There is no need to go broke and cause yourself even more stress in the name of pampering yourself. Do what works for you as long as you take some time for yourself to help you release the stress that the holiday season often brings.
A DO NOTHING DAY
Sometimes the only pampering we need is some good old rest. No, I’m not talking about sleeping. But taking a day to do absolutely nothing but curl up on the couch, eat and catch up on your favorite shows. I try my best to do this every Sunday and refer to it as the 4R’s- Rest, Relax, Recharge and Reset. I feel so replenished and ready for the week come Monday.
