Poppin' Wash and Go On Short Type 4 Hair

I’ve actually been sticking with the plan to grow out my hair and haven’t had the urge to cut it off. Aren’t you guys proud of me?! You may not have known this if you don’t follow me on Instagram (what are you waiting for lol). But yes, ya sis is growing out her hair. I don’t plan to grow it long though. Just into a longer tapered cut so that I can do more styles and serve y’all up some more hair tutorials. Speaking of tutorials, today I have another Wash n’ Go tutorial showing you how to make your coils pop with a comb. Yup sis- a comb. A wash and go is my go to method of styling my short type 4 hair when it’s at this awkward length. I say Type 4 because although I claim 4C, my hair is a mixture of Type 4 textures.

Type 4 Hair Wash and Go

The number one question I get about my hair when wearing a wash and go is- how do I make my hair curly? The fact is, I can’t make my hair curly. And neither can you. Not without the use of a chemical treatment or texturizer. You can only enhance your natural curl pattern. To reiterate… you can’t create curls that you don’t have. Doesn’t matter what products you use. It ain’t happening. So you can use the same exact products and method of styling that I use, and your hair won’t look exactly the same. And that’s okay. Embrace YOUR texture. That’s the number one lesson I’ve learned since doing the big chop 6 years ago.

Although some people fail to realize it, type 4 hair is actually curly though. We have very small, tight curls called coils. They tend to clump together, making them less visible. This Wash n Go Tutorial will show you how to separate your coils and make them pop using a comb. Let’s get to it…
