The pandemic and subsequent worldwide lockdown has truly changed beauty standards as we know it. A lot of us spent the majority of this year in our homes. Working from home and socializing virtually. With minimal outside contact. When we were able to leave our homes, we had to wear a mask to cover our nose and mouth for our safety. As a result, our beauty routines changed significantly. With nowhere to go and having to cover our faces when we did venture out, a lot of us ditched our daily makeup routines for top notch skincare rituals and toned down looks. This was not a bad thing as I myself came to the realization that I was wearing too much makeup anyway. Being able to let my skin breathe for months was welcome. So was pampering myself at home with new products and revisiting old faves. These 2020 Beauty Favorites were chosen as a result.
1. Pixi Glow Tonic
I’ve been using the Pixi Glow Tonic for years now as it just works for me. The Glycolic Acid aids in fading blemishes and acne scarring, and helps my skin to glow naturally. But not wearing makeup allows me to truly see the results. This definitely holds the top spot on my 2020 Beauty Favorites List.
2. Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist
This bi-phase mist is packed with 84% watermelon, hyaluronic acid and hibiscus to refresh and hydrate the skin. My skin was looking really dull back in the Spring from lack of sunlight and not drinking enough water. I was able to fake my way through though with the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Mist, and it’s now a holy grail product for me. It makes me glow without making me greasy.
3. Derma E Blue Light Shield Spray
I’m still working from home for the most part, and I’m on my computer and phone all day long. I know that all of that blue light exposure is not good for my skin. So I’ve been protecting it with the Derma E Blue Light Shield Spray. Blue Green Algae moisturizes and protects against environmental pollutants and free radical damage, while lutein helps to shield the skin from blue light aggressors.
4. Nyakio Maracuja & Yangu Soothing Oil
It appears that this oil has had a name change and is now called Maracuja & Yangu Rescue Oil. But the benefits remain the same. The oil soothes and nourishes stressed out skin and creates a barrier to protect it from the elements. I was experiencing dry patches and redness after healing from some maskne. This oil cleared the issue right up. I know it’ll be great for the Winter season.
5. C.O.Bigelow Rose Salve
I’ve been rocking with Smith’s Rosebud Salve since ’09. But
kind of totally forgot about it while trying new lip balms over the years. Recently I was looking for something to sooth my severely dry lips and accidentally picked up a tube of C.O. Bigelow Rose Salve. I wasn’t paying attention and thought that it was the Smith’s version. Not realizing the difference until after several uses. Let’s just say that I love it. It moisturizes my lips just as well, and I appreciate the hygienic squeeze tube in these current times.
6. Mented Cosmetics High Brow Pencil
I have to be in the office twice a week and like to look a little polished when I go in. Polished meaning brow work with a little eye makeup. I’ve recently realized that the shape of my natural brows are not as bad as I thought. So I use a little brow pencil to just fill them in and enhance the shape. The Mented High Brow Pencil with it’s precision tip and built in brush is perfect for this. Plus it’s waterproof.

7. Mented Cosmetics Everyday Eyeshadow Palette
The Mented Cosmetics Everyday Eyeshadow Palette features nine shades of nude eyeshadow made with melanin in mind. Upside Brown (middle shade) has been the perfect matte nude brown to swipe over my lids on those onsite work days. The shadows are extremely pigmented, applies smooth and wears well all day.

8. Fenty Beauty Hot Chocolit Gloss Bomb
Some days I decide to get a little cute while working from home. I put on my watermelon glow mist, fill in my brows, put on some mascara- and this Fenty Beauty Hot Chocolit Gloss Bomb. The gloss is super shiny with a tinge of brown and a touch of sparkle. Best of all, it’s not sticky and it’s pretty moisturizing. Pair it with brown lip liner to achieve this bomb (pun intended) look I did when I got dolled up for my birthday.
9. Milk Makeup Kush Clear Brow Gel
When I’m at home sans makeup, I simply brush my brows into place with the Milk Makeup Kush Brow Gel. The clear brow gel is formulated with hemp-derived cannibis seed oil to condition the brows. I love it because it holds my brows in place without making them crunchy, and doesn’t flake.
10. TGIN Miracle Repairx Curl Food
I won’t even lie y’all, I haven’t combed my hair much at all this year. I kept it styled in a super short cut for the most part so that I could easily style it with a twist sponge. Now that I’m letting it grow- I wash, deep condition, comb some leave in through and let my natural coils pop. I’m currently loving the TGIN Miracle RepairX Curl Food as it’s super hydrating and leaves my hair soft and coils poppin’.
