Preparing holiday dinner can get a bit crazy when catering to different types of diets. I remember the first holiday season after I decided to switch to a pescatarian diet almost six years ago. I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to eat anything at the family dinner. My family is from the South and puts meat in everything. What I ended up doing is preparing personal dishes for myself while helping my mom to prepare dinner for the family. Thank goodness as if I didn’t do this my plate would’ve been pretty much empty. It doesn’t have to be this hard though. You can prepare a Pescatarian Thanksgiving meal that even the meat eaters will love. Here are some recipe ideas.
SMOKY FRIED WHITING WITH HOMEMADE FISH FRY
I don’t make turkey when I’m hosting holiday dinner at my place. If someone wants turkey then I let them volunteer to bring it. I’ve never been a huge fan of turkey anyway. My Pescatarian Thanksgiving meal is not complete without some type of fish. I usually pan sear some salmon. But this year I’ll be frying up some whiting & porgies with my homemade smoky fish fry, for my son and myself. You’ll never use bagged fish fry again!
BUTTERNUT SQUASH LASAGNA
Growing up, my family always made some type of lasagna or baked ziti along with the traditional holiday spread. I still like to do this as well since it gives more variety when it comes to leftovers. This Butternut Squash Lasagna is a dish that Meat Lovers & Pescatarians alike can enjoy. It’s loaded with vegetables, and the mushrooms gives the dish a meaty texture.
PANKO CRUSTED LANGOSTINO MAC ‘N CHEESE
If you’ve never heard of squat lobster or langostinos, they resemble mini lobsters and have the same flavor profile. Adding them to mac n’ cheese gives the southern comfort dish a nice twist, while adding some extra protein to the plate. This dish is my favorite to serve at my Pescatarian Thanksgiving Dinner.
SOUTHERN STYLE POTATO SALAD
Listen, every body loves potato salad. But don’t try to be like Karen and add raisins and all types of other ish. Stick to traditional southern style potato salad. And remember- if it ain’t a little yellow, it ain’t right.
Potato salad goes hand and hand with some greens. So pair it with some Sautéed Kale and some Spicy BBQ Salmon. I’m giving y’all three whole recipes in one. Thank me later.
SRIRACHA MAPLE BRUSSELS SPROUTS
I created this Sriracha Maple Brussels Sprouts Recipe a few years back as a copycat recipe for a dish at a local NYC eatery. It’s been a big hit in my house ever since. This recipe converted my brussels sprouts hating son to a brussels lover. It’s the combination of sweet and spicy for me though. Trust me, you’ll never look at brussels sprouts the same.
PHENOMENAL PEACH COBBLER
What’s Thanksgiving Dinner without dessert? My family makes peach cobbler every single year, along with a host of other desserts. I’ve been making peach cobbler for so long that I can make it with my eyes closed. This Phenomenal Peach Cobbler recipe is great for making a pie plate sized amount, which is perfect for two.
