I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but there’s been a gradual shift in focus on The Glamorous Gleam. I haven’t made any major announcements. Nor did I write any long posts about it. I’ve been just doing me and it feels so good. When I started this blog almost 9 years ago (yes, 9 years) it was pretty much musings of my life. I was just getting into makeup. So I was sharing all of the goodies I was buying in the form of reviews, hauls & makeup looks. But I was equally sharing what I was wearing… events and outings with my friends. QT time with my son. Along with vacations, recipes and other things in between. This was truly a Beauty, Fashion AND Lifestyle Blog. And although there were similar blogs out there, this one remained unique as I was sharing my life, and no two stories are the same.
TOP | JEANS | SHOES
Somewhere along the line there was a shift. The Glamorous Gleam became less personal and more generic. My content begin to change as I wanted to make sure I kept up with other bloggers. Product reviews begin to dominate, along with beauty content in general. I reviewed certain products because everyone else did a review. And I didn’t want to be left behind. I had to do swatches on a white background because everyone else was doing it. I had to announce this new collection because so and so announced it. Fashion posts were becoming rare, and lifestyle posts almost non existent. Blogging became boring. Every year I professed in my Blogiversary post that things would be changing. And every year things remained the same. I’ve come to realize that I have to stop focusing on what other bloggers are doing and just do me. Like I used to.
Allow me to reintroduce myself…
My name is Erica. I love to cook. I’m a minimalist. Not only with my makeup looks and wardrobe, but also in my home. Speaking of home, I’ve become obsessed with decor and just did some redecorating in my apartment. I love kitchen appliances, which makes sense since I love to cook. As I get older I am more of a homebody. It’s hard to get me out of the house. But if there’s food involved you can count me in lol. I’m working on getting out and adding more fun to my life though. I enjoy movie night with my son, and make sure to take him out on a mom & son date at least once a month. I have a small circle of friends whom I hang out with. If you’ve been reading this blog for some time you’ve seen them here on several occasions. My love of travel has grown so much. Especially since I learned to value experiences over material things. I’ve also learned so many valuable lessons in love and life over the years.
This is me and all of the things that I love to do. And these are the things that I want to share with you guys. So I’ve been doing just that. Blogging is now fun again. I don’t feel like I’m in a box anymore and have to do what everyone else is doing. I’ve found my lane and I’m staying in it. I want to make sure that I’m adding more than superficial value to your life. But don’t worry, I’ll keep the beauty aspect in the mix as well because I’m all about balance. I hope you guys stay along for the ride. XO
By the way, I’ll be in Jamaica with Tropic Isle Living this weekend for the It Starts With Us Influencer Retreat. So make sure you’re following me on Instagram @glammzmore for a peek behind the scenes while I’m there. And be on the lookout for my first vlog when I return!

So glad you’re remaining true to yourself. And you’re right about all for one. If I see another Nordstrom Anniversary Sale vlog on YouTube I’m going to scream. ( plus, I can find my own fall sales at better quality and better deals … lol ). Have a safe, fun trip & I look forward to the details. 🙂 Take care !
Lol at screaming over the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It’s a high commission sale, but I don’t post about unless I’m actually shopping the sale myself. Thank you so much! ❤️
Love love love this post!!!! I’m about to change my blog over to lifestyle because I feel that it fits who I’m evolving into, and I have been drafting this “Allow me to Reintroduce” myself post for months…it’s still not published. Don’t know where to start and I’m sure I’m overthinking it. Reading your post has given me the inspiration that I needed. I, too, feel stuck and feel like I have to keep up with others; but, you reminded me that it’s ok to be different and I don’t have to compare. Thanks so much for this post!!!
You are very welcome. I’m so glad that I could inspire. Good luck with your rebranding! Xo
Love the photos, so gorgeous
Thank you so much ❤️
Hi Erica! Love that I happened upon your Blog. My daughter is a college athlete and has been wearing protective styles for most of her athletic years beginning in H.S. She is tired of her current styles and is ready to embrace her natural hair. She has a 4C curl pattern and is desperately seeking a stylist who can start her off. We are located in Southern Calif. Would you be able to recommend someone on this side of the States? We found a salon that does Deva Curl, however we do not know much about it or know anyone who can tell of their experience. Help!
Blessings~
Tammy
Hi Tammy. Unfortunately I don’t know of any Cali stylists as I’m in NYC. But good luck to your daughter in her journey. I hope my tips and tutorials will help ❤️
Awesome post! I discovered your blog about 5 or 6 years ago while I was searching for nude lipsticks for black women. Your blog has always been really good in my opinion but I understand if you’re not happy with the content you were creating. Congratulations on the rebranding. Blogging has become so generic to me. I appreciate authenticity and original content. I don’t even read as many blogs as I used to.
Thank you so much for the continued support and kind words. You are so right, blogging has definitely become generic. I want to make sure that I continue to stand out! 🙂
