My hair was extremely dry no matter what I did to it when it was relaxed. And let’s not talk about my itchy scalp. This was partly from the chemicals, but also because I have a thyroid disorder. These issues have cleared for the most part since I ditched the creamy crack and did the big chop. But thirsty 4c hair is a different kind of dry. The LOC Method has been a saving grace in keeping my hair moisturized.
An acronym, the L.O.C. Method is the practice of applying a water based Leave-In Conditioner to (wet) hair to moisturize. Sealing with an Oil to lock in the moisture. Then styling with a Cream to close the hair cuticle and prevent moisture loss. This 3 step product application process leaves the hair extremely moisturized and shiny. You may also use a gel along with the cream for more hold. Sometimes I even omit the cream and style with gel after the oil, and my hair still retains moisture for days.
I’ve been styling my hair using the LOC Method faithfully since my big chop, and it never fails. Here are some of my favorite product combinations that play nicely together without flaking, even when gel is added to the mix…
When I style my hair using The LOC Method, it usually holds on to moisture for about a week. I spritz it with water to reactivate the products if it starts to feel dry. Or refresh with a curl refresher spray like the CURLS Lavish Curls Moisturizer. Then I’m good until wash day.
