Today is The Glamorous Gleam’s 8th Blogiversary. Wow, I can’t believe that I’ve been blogging for 8 years already. I guess I can consider myself a Blogger OG now lol.

The blogging game has changed so much since ’09 though. Especially when it comes down to social media. Instagram, Snapchat nor Pinterest existed. Facebook and Twitter was around, but definitely didn’t hold as much weight as it does today. Your blog was the main attraction. People commented on your posts. Bloggers interacted with and supported each other. And blogging was actually fun.

These days the blogosphere is over-saturated. Bloggers won’t support each other for fear that someone else will get ahead of them. That is unless you’re part of their clique. I’ve noticed this with Brown Girl Bloggers. I can’t speak for any other groups. This is my personal experience after attending lots of events over the years, and interacting on social media. There’s definitely a “you can’t sit with us” aura in the air. It feels like high school. A popularity contest where social media numbers determine if you’re worthy.

The Glamorous Gleam 8th Blogiversary

I’m over it and sometimes I just want to bow out. I’m getting too old for those types of games. But I’m not going anywhere. At least not yet. The Glamorous Gleam is my baby and I’m going to continue to nurture it. I’m passionate about this space, and I’ll continue to do my best to create great content for you guys. I’m here to inspire you, and you all inspire me as well. Thank you so much for your support over the years. I appreciate y’all. And to my fellow Brown Girl Bloggers, there’s room for all of us. We all may create similar content, but we all also have a unique voice and bring different things to the table. Let’s support our sisters more. We are doing great on our own, but imagine the success we could achieve if we stuck together more.

So on my 8th Blogiversary, let’s raise a virtual glass and have a toast. Cheers to 8 years and hopefully many more!

  1. Happy Blogiversary!! I think I discovered your blog about 5 years ago when I googled blush for black women, lol. Keep going, growing, and creating with this space. Your blog is amazing & well rounded. Not a lot of bloggers can successfully showcase beauty, fashion, & food.

I’m about to launch my blog & I’m doing it for me. I need a creative outlet. Definitely agree with you about the cliques & the “can’t sit with us” attitude in the brown blogosphere. It’s so sad that we are doing that to each other. I’m in a really good Facebook group (Bloggers Like Me) that creates a sense of unity, shares resources & I haven’t seen any cattiness yet.

    1. Thank you so much. I appreciate your kind words. I recently joined the BLM Facebook Group and have been enjoying it so far. Much success to you with the launch of your new blog! xo

  2. I love your new look and your blog! Totally helpful to me because we have same type hair, skin color and face shape. So don’t listen to the naysayers! Keep keeping on with your blog, being beautiful and inspiring others! Best wishes!

    1. I am so glad that you enjoy my blog. Thank you so much for taking the time out to comment! 🙂
