The Eco Styler Gel Line Up is a fan favorite amongst naturalistas. If you’ve been around since I did The Big Chop, then you’d know that I absolutely love the Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel. It gives my coils definition and keeps my style in place for up to weeks. Best of all, it mixes well with other products without leaving a residue or flaking. I use the gel in a lot of my tutorials. Eco recently introduced a few more variations of the famed gel, including the Eco Styler Coconut Oil Gel. I absolutely love coconut oil so this was right up my alley.

The Eco Styler Coconut Oil Gel is made with pure coconut oil. Coconut oil acts as a humectant and attracts moisture to the scalp and holds it in. The lightweight gel adds moisture and shine to the hair while holding your style in place.

It’s a little heavier than the Olive Oil Gel and mixing it with certain products will leave a white cast on the hair. With practice though, I’ve been able to perfect a couple of styles using the Eco Styler Coconut Oil Gel. First, the Wash and Go. I co-washed my hair and applied a generous amount of Giovanni Direct Leave-In Weightless Moisture Conditioner. Then making sure my hair was soaking wet, I shingled the Coconut Oil Gel through my hair in small sections. My coils came out poppin’.

Another style I tried using the gel is a Bantu Knot Out. I did my bantu knots using the Eco Styler Coconut Oil Gel along with SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Gel Soufflé. I left the knots in for a few days. When I took out the knots, my Bantu Knot Out had lots of volume and definition.

Overall, my hair really likes the new Eco Styler Coconut Oil Gel. It doesn’t take the place of my fave- Eco Styler Oilve Oil Gel. But it gets the job done and leaves my hair looking good. That’s a A in my book!

You can find the Eco Styler Coconut Oil Gel in your local beauty supply store or at Walmart or Amazon.

  1. I use the one in the black container. It’s a hold level 8, and i think it’s just called their protein gel. LOVE THAT STUFF. I gives less hold and more fluff which allows for more volume. The only time i use one that’s a level 10 hold is when i’m slicking my hair back/up in a bun. Otherwise it’s to heavy on my hair.

  2. I didn’t know they had a new coconut gel. I recently bought their Argan oil gel. I’ve used their Olive oil gel, but not frequently since I don”t really like gels. However I did buy a new jar since I want to experiment more with gel since it’ll keep my hair in curls for days in combination with the right leave-in conditioner.

  3. I just stumbled upon the eco styler coconut oil gel. I have yet to try it but would like to. Currently I use the curl and wave (pink) eco styler, along with shea moistures curl and style milk, and shea butter and all three products go together perfectly for me. No flaking whatsoever. I’ve also used the olive oil brand of eco styler and it worked well for me too.

    1. It only mixes well with some products, and you have to use less gel than normal since its thicker.
