Sprinkling Some Black Girl Magic At Bodega Negra

I had an amazing birthday dinner with some of my closest girls at Bodega Negra. Delicious food, strong drinks and an overall great time. Check out my recap!

Birthday Dinner at Bodega Negra

I had an amazing birthday. My little man woke me up with breakfast in bed. After spending the rest of the morning sleeping in, I spent the afternoon at the spa followed by a nice and quiet solo dinner. After that I hung out with my son all evening. We watched movies while munching on sweet potato pie and vanilla ice cream. It’s funny how as you get older the little things make your day. The following evening I had a birthday dinner with some of my closest girls at Bodega Negra.

Birthday Dinner at Bodega Negra

Bodega Negra at Dream Downtown is an upscale restaurant in the Meatpacking district that serves Mexican cuisine. It’s dark yet cozy, with stylish decor and a lounge-like vibe.  I’d been wanting to check it out for months and it definitely lived up to the hype. We ended up arriving very late due to heavy traffic. The restaurant was extremely accommodating and still honored my reservation, even allowing us to sit although we were waiting on another person to arrive. We ordered a variety of dishes and drinks, and everything was delicious.

The drinks are on the pricey side and not very large, but they were strong. The guac and chips was a great starter.

Bodega Negra Don Huevo

For dessert I had the Don Huevo, a dark chocolate molten cake surrounded by a white chocolate shell. Hot caramel sauce is poured over the shell when served to reveal the cake inside. Speaking of hot caramel sauce, y’all see my server. He was fine and quite the gentleman. Too bad he wasn’t single lol. Back to the dessert though, it was da bomb! I really enjoyed my dinner.

After dinner we partied for a bit at PHD Rooftop Lounge at the Dream Hotel Penthouse until they started acting racist and we had to leave. It was not many black people in the building and they started to make us feel like we didn’t belong. I definitely don’t spend my dollars where I’m unwanted and I won’t be returning.

Overall, it was a great night and I had an amazing time with my girls. Here’s a closer look at my outfit (sans blazer)…

  1. So sorry my ignorant white cousins made u feel unwelcome (very very distant cousins). They obviously don’t have a brain cell between them. Or eyes. Anyways I gotta say u look absolutely incredible in this outfit. WOW! Your hair is beautiful and yes u look damn fine in a jumpsuit. Peace! 😉 😉 x x x

  2. Hi Erica! Happy birthday and you look beautiful (as always). Sorry about your experience at that lounge. Rooftop on 23rd Street is much better and their drinks are cheaper.

  3. You looked fab! The food looked really good & yes that waiter was a CUTIE. It really sucks that there are still establishments that act funny with black customers. I don’t blame you for leaving. There’s a lot of that in Chicago where I live. Chalk it up to ignorance & go where you are welcomed & respected.

    1. Thank you so much, and you are so right. My green money is good enough to accept, but you can’t accept my black skin and treat me with the same respect as white patrons. I’ll pass!
