I love my bold lip colors so I don’t wear a nude lip very often, but when I do it has to be perfect. A lot of nude lip colors aren’t very flattering on us melanated beauties and give us that Tyrone Biggums look (Dave Chapelle as the crackhead just in case that went over your head lol). For this reason I keep a small selection of go to nudes that I know work well with my complexion and skin tone, and OCC New York Groove is my latest acquisition. I received it in my gift bag from The Makeup Show NYC Press Preview and it’s my current favorite nude lipstick.
OCC New York Groove Lip Tar is a limited edition custom shade created by renowned Makeup Artist James Vincent in collaboration with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, exclusively for The Makeup Show NYC. He wanted to create a universal nude lipstick that would be flattering on a variety of complexions, from the palest to the deepest. Inspired by the 60’s nude lip, OCC New York Groove is a golden nude with a touch of pink. The juxtaposition of warm and cool gives it a neutral finish that would look good on anyone (in my opinion). I know one thing for sure, it looks great on deeper complexions!
OCC Lip Tars apply like a gloss and dry down to a demi-matte finish. New York Groove applies smooth and opaque, and comfortably wears well for hours. It fades nicely since it almost looks like your natural lip color, so no need to rush and reapply. Here I’m wearing OCC New York Groove with Milani Color Statement Lipliner in Cocoa to create a slight ombre effect. Don’t be alarmed though, it looks amazing on it’s own and a lip pencil is not a necessity. It’s perfect for the my lips but better look. I think I’ll have to start wearing nude lips more often.
Unfortunately, OCC New York Groove is no longer available as it was limited edition for the show, and only 150 were made. However, you can achieve the same look with Wet ‘n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Bare It All. You know I couldn’t leave y’all without a substitute. Thank me later. OCC if you’re reading this- PLEASE bring New York Groove back. Thanks in advance.
