ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks are hit or miss, and after my last showdown with the brand I haven’t gone out of my way to pick up anything else. My cousin Mo loves the Ultra Matte Lips though and with her last order she got ColourPop LAX for me. LAX is definitely a hit!
The ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks are lightweight, super-pigmented lipsticks that apply like a wet gloss and dry down to an ultra matte, kiss proof finish. I have a love hate relationship with these as they are DIFFICULT to work with, but I have to admit that the formula seems to have improved drastically.
It’s important that you thoroughly exfoliate your lips and apply lots of lip balm before applying ColourPop LAX, and while applying you have to work fast as it dries down quick.
ColourPop LAX is a deep burgundy with brown undertones that will work well with all complexions and skin tones. It applies opaque in one coat but can be a little patchy if you’re not careful. I find it looks best when you apply a thin coat, and then layer with another thin coat before it dries completely. It’s also easier to apply when you use a lip liner first. It wears for hours unless you eat something oily and then you’ll have to remove and reapply.
Here I’m wearing LAX with MAC Nightmoth Lip Pencil and it’s my current favorite combo. The look is so sultry and sexy, and I receive so many compliments and inquiries as to what I’m wearing. I know a lot of you guys asked what I was wearing when I posted this look on Social Media the other day, so I had to share. I don’t think I have any exact dupes for LAX in my collection but MAC Sin, MAC Talk That Talk, Wet ‘n Wild Cherry Bomb (918D) are all very similar, but none are as matte.
