I attended Texture On The Runway on Saturday night and came home with a Swag Bag full of amazing natural hair goodies. I was extremely excited as there were products included from brands that I haven’t had the pleasure of trying yet, like Cantu Beauty. There were products from the Cantu Shea Butter Natural Hair Collection, and I also received some extra products from the line from the Cantu Beauty table. I decided to take the products for a spin and do a Finger Coil Out.
The Cantu Shea Butter Natural Hair Collection is geared toward naturalistas and doesn’t have any sulfates, silicones, parabens or mineral oil which are all harsh on natural hair (and hair in general.) As the name suggests, the collection is formulated with pure Shea Butter to moisturize and strengthen natural strands. I received five products from the line- Coconut Oil Shine & Hold Mist, Coconut Curling Cream, Moisturizing Twist & Lock Gel, Edge Stay Gel and the new Anti-Frizz Oil.
Coconut Curling Cream– defines curls without weighing hair down, conditions and adds manageability for soft elongated curls.
Moisturizing Twist & Lock Gel– moisturizes, de-frizzes and adds manageability to hair for soft, shiny twists and locks with a silky smooth hold.
Coconut Oil Shine & Hold Mist– Seals in moisture and tames frizz and flyaways revealing softer, smoother curls with just enough hold.
Anti-Frizz Oil– provides intense shine and dismisses frizz and flyaways for smooth in control styles that defy humidity.
Extra Hold Edge Stay Gel– conditions and smooths frizz and flyaways for shiny, sleek styles with long lasting, flake-free hold.
I used all of the products that I received from the Cantu Shea Butter Natural Hair Collection to style my hair in a Finger Coil Out. First I washed and deep conditioned my hair and applied the Coconut Oil Shine & Hold Mist as a leave-in conditioner and to detangle. I then applied organic virgin coconut oil to seal in the moisture. After that I put a generous amount of the Coconut Curling Cream in my hair and combed it through. At this point my hair was extremely moisturized and my coils were really defined. It probably would have made a good Wash n’ Go. Anyway, I separated my hair into sections and used the Moisturizing Twist & Lock Gel to create Finger Coils. The gel had a creamy texture so I was afraid that my coils wouldn’t hold, but they stayed put and felt super silky and moisturized. When I was done I put on my satin bonnet and went to bed, allowing my hair to air dry overnight.
It took almost 12 hours for my hair to dry completely but this is nothing new. My hair always takes forever to dry. My coils were very defined with a strong hold, but didn’t feel crispy like they do when I use regular gel. I applied some coconut oil to my scalp and a generous amount of the Anti-Frizz Oil to my coils, then I proceeded to pull them apart. When I was done I lifted my roots with a pick to create volume, and my coils were very shiny and frizz-free but I did have a lot of flaking. I believe that this is because I applied way too much of the Twist & Lock Gel while doing my coils, so next time I won’t be so heavy handed. I was able to get rid of most of the flakes with a blowdryer on the cool setting. To complete my style I attempted to lay down my edges with the Extra Hold Edge Stay Gel, but found that it didn’t have enough holding power. I had to layer another gel on top. The Edge StayGel was however very moisturizing. In the end my Finger Coil Out came out looking amazing!
Overall, I really like the products from the Cantu Shea Butter Natural Hair Collection and can’t wait to try more. My hair is on Day 3 and still looks amazing. If you’d like to try the collection for yourself, Walgreens is currently having a BOGO 50% Off Sale on Cantu products so now’s your chance- Shop now. The Cantu Shea Butter Natural Hair Collection is also available at Target, Sally’s, Drugstore and Amazon.
Look out for tomorrow’s post if you’d like details on my makeup!

I’ve never tried this line before but I may give them a try, since we have pretty much the same hair texture. I’m like a 4b/4c girl.
