1 Year of Natural Hair

It's my 1st Natural Hair Anniversary! After four haircuts and one year, I'm still loving my natural hair. Here's an overview of my first year in pictures, with info on my hairstyles.

Tomorrow is my Natural Hair Anniversary and I can’t believe that it’s been a year already. Doing the Big Chop and embracing my natural hair has been the best thing that I could have done for my hair. It hasn’t been this healthy or strong in a very long time. No more super dry, itchy scalp. No more breakage. No more random bald patches. Just healthy, flowing and growing hair. After four haircuts and one year, I’m still loving my natural hair. Here’s an overview of my first year with natural hair in pictures. Enjoy!

Fresh Tapered Cut and Finger Shingles

My hair has been growing out extremely fast and I believe that it’s because I don’t manipulate it too much. Most of my hairstyles last for one to two weeks. I wash, deep condition, moisturize, style and leave it be until next time. As you can see I’ve been very scissor happy. I loved me a short cut in my relaxer days and that hasn’t changed. It’s just hair it will grow back!

  1. You have the perfect face for this hairstyle, it looks beautiful on you. I tried going natural but I just couldn’t deal. My hair is super fine and thin, when I went natural it was like a cotton ball sitting on top of my head. It will barely hold a curl of any type, I wish I had normal thick-coarse-black girl hair.

    1. Thank you so much hun. I wish you would have waited it out a bit. When I first did the big chop it took months for my natural curl pattern to really pop. Some ppl believe that this is because the hair that grows out after the big chop is scab hair that is still damaged from the relaxer. I believe that this was the case for me and maybe could have been the case for you. Look out for tomorrow’s post as you may find it to be very helpful!

  2. Thanks for sharing your story. I recently went natural and I thought about going back to relaxing with a short pixie cut. But, after reading your amazing story, you’ve inspired me to rock my TWA. No turning back!

BTW, your hair looks absolutely fabulous!!!

    1. Thank you so much hun. Yay for rocking your TWA. I’m sure you’re werking it. So glad that I could inspire you as that’s exactly what I’m striving to do! 🙂

  3. You’re an inspiration, girl! I LOVED your cut last year when you big chopped but seeing you now, a year later, just shows you were born for this. You need to find a modeling agency to work your hair in all its glory!!

  4. The growth and personal inspiration is soooo inspiring! Seeing your journey is a site to behold. Love all of your hairstyles & personal aesthetic. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. It’s beautiful!!!

  5. I love your hair!!!! and your texture is similar to mine so I’m watching to see how you style it. I tried the finger shingling method and gave up after shingling about 5 pieces – my arms were tired! LOL
    Keep up the good work!

  6. Hi Erica,
Just wanted to know, how many times a month or in months do you color your hair and what type of hair color and product you use?
Be cause your color is a vibrant color if jet or blue black and I love it.

  7. I love your hair and your hair style on you it fits you.
I just started to go all natural and my hair is a mess.
How offend do you shampoo your hair and please give me the name of some products to try. My hair is thin and I just don’t know what to do. Thanks in advance

    1. Thank you so much. I shampoo my hair every 10-14 days. To get an idea of the products I use you can start here under the natural hair section. I hope that helps!

  8. Te queda genial el cabello natural. Quisiera me orientaras como mantener el mío pues aquí en mi país se nos dificulta la compra de cremas y tratamientos para lograr tenerlo como el tuyo.
