Fall has officially arrived and I'm super excited. I'm a Fall baby so it's my favorite season. I added MAC Matte Royal to my collection for the occasion.

Fall has officially arrived and I’m super excited. I’m a Fall baby so it’s my favorite season. The air is crisp and the temperature perfectly balanced, all of the pumpkin spiced desserts and drinks return and let’s not forget hot apple cider… I love to curl up with a huge cup of hot apple cider. Yum. Anyway, I hope that you guys have been enjoying my Fall Lip Pick Series. Today I’m featuring MAC Matte Royal.

MAC Matte Royal Lipstick

From the 2015 MAC ‘The Matte Lip’ collection, Matte Royal is described as a deep blue with a Matte finish. It’s more of a blurple (blue + purple) and not a true blue in my opinion, although sometimes the blue comes through in photos… especially when flash is used.

Although described as having a Matte finish, Matte Royal is not really matte at all. It’s in between a Satin and Amplified Creme finish and applies on the sheer side but is easily built up. Due to the finish, it is not very long wearing and requires a lot of touch ups. In this sense I wish that it had a real matte finish as it would last longer on the lips and maybe be more of a true blue.

If you’re looking for a dupe with a true matte finish, LASplash Smitten Lip Tint Mousse in Bellatrix is almost an exact dupe, it’s just slightly darker. I love both shades and both will be in heavy rotation this Fall. I still plan to add a true blue matte lipstick to my collection in the near future so stay tuned.

  1. I’ve been on the fence about Matte Royale b/c I work in a very conservative office but I do push the limits with my lippies from time to time. I purchased the Kat Von D liquid lipstick in echo which reminds me of this lippie from MAC and its super matte. But I love the way Matte Royale looks on your skin. I think I may swing by MAC tonight after work. lol

    1. Thank you Char. I can understand you being apprehensive about the shade for work, but I think the fact that it looks more purple than blue makes it easier to pull off. I wore it to work but I work in a university library and it’s a kind of relaxed atmosphere. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing it to work, there’s always the weekend 😉

  2. I love that you have the confidence to wear colors like this because it looks great on you! I’m not that daring yet but one day.

    1. Thank you so much. Try it for a few hours at night once in a while until you’re comfortable with wearing it in the day 🙂

  3. The matte Royal is my FAVE right now. I cant believe I held out so long. You’re right I didn’t find it to be matte enough. What i’ve been doing to give it a matte finish was I first applied a pencil liner in the color magenta and then I apply the lipstick. It does change the color of the lipstick but not too much to the point where it takes away the true color.
    it looks amazing on you.

    1. Thank you so much. You can always dab a little white setting powder like Ben Nye Neutral Set on top to make it look matte w/o changing the color 😉
