Kinks & Drinks is a monthly meetup hosted by Tribe Called Curl for naturalistas to connect with each other, share tips and celebrate our curls. It is a ticketed event held at a different venue on the fourth Thursday of every month, and the May event was held at 333 Lounge in Brooklyn. I rounded up my curlfriends to check it out and see what it’s all about.
Upon arrival, each attendee received a gift bag along with a raffle ticket to win more goodies, a number for group assignment and the first 30 attendees received a ticket for a complimentary glass of wine. There was also complimentary hor d’oeuvres which included some finger licking good chicken wings, and additional food and drinks was available for purchase.

After everyone arrived and settled down, we split into groups by number (given upon arrival) to play the My Clique Bad game where each of us shared something interesting about ourselves with our fellow team members. My team (#3) was deemed the most interesting group and won. We split the goodies from two extra gift bags amongst ourselves as our prize.
Special guests included SheaMoisture Beauty Ambassador Master Stylist Diane C. Bailey who discussed how to take care of and protect your natural hair during the Summer months, and Karen Tappin of Karen’s Body Beautiful who discussed her new talk show “Karen Says.”
The Tribe Called Curl team really knows how to throw an event and Imani was the hostess with the mostest.
Curlfriends… The Transitioner, The TWA, The Locs & The Protective Style
This was my first natural hair event and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. My friends and I had an amazing time and I can’t wait to do it again.
The gift bag included four full sized products from SheaMoisture, Karen’s Body Beautiful and Curls. Look out for reviews on these goodies soon!
