SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Collection Review

I’ve been trying to get my hands on the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore collection for what seems like forever. I usually purchase my SheaMoisture products during the BOGO sales and this product line is always the first to sell out. I lucked out during the last Walgreens sale and was able to snag the shampoo, treatment masque and leave in conditioner.

SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Shampoo

The SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore hair collection is formulated to fortify and renew while supporting healthy hair growth for all types of hair, including chemically treated, heat styled, natural and transitioning. The products contain a combination of Organic Shea Butter and Jamaican Black Castor Oil along with other ingredients to nourish and grow hair. Shea Butter deeply moisturizes and conditions hair and scalp, and is loaded with nutrient rich fatty acids and vitamins. Black Castor Oil is enriched with essential Omega-6 fatty acids which repair hair and scalp to promote growth. Sounds like a winning combination to me. Let’s take a closer look at the products starting with the shampoo.

First of all, you get 25% more shampoo in the Jamaican Black Castor Oil collection than the other collections, for the same price. So I felt like I was wining already. The Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Shampoo has Apple Cider Vinegar in it which contains natural alpha hydroxy acids (malic acid) that clarifies hair and helps to regulate pH levels of the scalp. It suds up nicely for a sulfate-free shampoo using a very small amount, and it smells amazing, like sweet vanilla frosting. The shampoo left my hair feeling squeaky clean, yet it did not dry it out like most clarifying shampoos. This surprised me as I usually use the SheaMoisture African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo to clarify and it leaves my hair dry like the desert. The Jamaican Black Castor Oil Shampoo actually left my hair feeling moisturized but not greasy or heavy. This will now be my go to clarifying shampoo.

SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Treatment Masque SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Treatment Masque

After shampooing my hair I applied the Treatment Masque. It’s thick, rich and creamy and coats the hair well. The masque has peppermint oil to stimulate the scalp so it gives a nice little tingle upon application. It does not have a lot of slip so you will need to make sure that your hair is soaking wet when applied if you plan to comb detangle. My hair is really thick so I had to use a lot, but still didn’t seem to put a dent in the container. I had a lot of errands to do so I applied the conditioner, put on a plastic cap covered with a warm towel and left it on for at least 5 hrs while I did my thang. When I washed it out my hair was really soft and moisturized, and my coils were popping. My hair felt really good.

Now on to my favorite product, the leave-in conditioner. This product is amazingly awesome and you get a whole lot of product for your money! The combination of the Shea Butter, Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Peppermint Oil is really moisturizing and invigorating, and it feels so good on the hair. My hair feels nice and soft but not mushy, and it really makes my natural curl pattern pop. The only bad thing is it’s really thin and messy. As soon as you open the jar it starts to spill all over the place. This product really should have been in a squeeze bottle and I may actually transfer mine to one to make it easier to use. I’m going to have to stock up on this as my son loves it as well and uses it everyday so I want to make sure we always have some on hand. I applied the leave-in conditioner to moisturize after washing out the treatment masque, and I sealed it with Tropic Isle Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I then styled my hair with Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel using the Shingling Method. Here are the results…

My hair turned out so lush and moisturized, and do you see them coils?! Straight poppin’. Just call me Coily Sue lol. Oh and in case you haven’t noticed or seen on my Instagram, I cut my hair to re-shape and get a more defined tapered fro. I absolutely love it!

Overall, the SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore is now my favorite hair collection from the brand so far and I highly recommend it. Stay tuned as I have some products from the Superfruit Complex collection that I’m testing now.

The SheaMoisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Collection is available at Walgreens, Ulta & Target.

  1. Yep, I’d say your hair is boss! I bought these items, too, and I’m definitely a fan! My hair was noticeably shiny after I rinsed out the mask. And the leave-in is a new fave of mine. I was also surprised at how soft my hair felt when I used the shampoo & detangling with it was not a problem for me. Glad you enjoy this line as well.
