Whether I’m wearing my hair relaxed, in a protective style or in it’s natural state, I can’t do without a good edge control product. Taming my edges is the icing on the cake for any hairstyle that I’m rocking. I usually keep both Creme of Nature Argan Oil Perfect Edges and ORS Olive Oil Edge Control in my hair arsenal as both work wonders for my hair. Anyway, I recently received the African Pride Olive Miracle Silky Smooth Edges in the May Cocotique Box and I was excited to have another contender.
African Pride Olive Miracle Silky Smooth Edges is an edge control gel enriched with Olive Oil that claims to slick down edges, hold down flyaways and control frizz. It does not contain alcohol or petroleum, and claims to be non-sticky, non-flaking and non-greasy.
The gel comes in a small jar the same size as both Creme of Nature and ORS. It’s light green in color and smells divine, like juicy green granny smith apples.
It’s very light in texture, heavier than a regular gel but not as heavy as the other edge control gels that I use. I had doubts that it would hold down my edges… and I was right.
The gel goes on smooth and at first it looks like it’s going to hold down your edges, but before you can blink they pop back. Now my 4c hair does not allow my edges to lay completely flat but when I use my other edge control products topped with some gel, my soft “baby hairs” around the temple at least stays put. The Olive Miracle can’t even hold those down. All it does is make my hair greasy (which it claims not to) and smell good. I guess a positive is that it’s moisturizing but I use other products for that purpose so I’m not looking for extra moisture, just hold. I have to top it with another edge control product and gel for it to hold down anything. If you have a looser curl pattern or relaxed hair this may work for you, but for all of my natural 4c peeps choose something else. I highly recommend both Creme of Nature Argan Oil Perfect Edges and ORS Olive Oil Edge Control.
If you’d like to take the African Pride Olive Miracle Silky Smooth Edges for a spin, it’s available at Walgreens & Sally Beauty $2.99.

I saw this in Walgreens and started to pick it up. I have like 3 different textures in my head lol (4b, 4c and 4a in the back). It seems like I’ve tried every single edge control product out there. I’m just going to stick with the eco-styler gel.. lol Thanks for the review!
You’re welcome. I love my Eco Styler gel but it needs help when it comes to these edges lol
I have tried it as well and it does nothing for me but moisturize as well. This goes for when my hair is natural and on relaxed hair. Now Ors edge control works temporarily for me but I like it it holds til almost end of my day. Question though why when I do my hair with African Pride edge control it eats my nail polish. I braided my hair using ors my nail set is fine, I used African Pride my nails are messed up I gotta go get them repainted.
Oh wow. That does not sound good at all. Check the current ingredient list on your label.Do you see sodium hydroxide in there? It sounds like it may have lye in it. I hope not
I love all these products each one works differently and that’s the way I like it 1 makes it curly the other makes it longer thick and straight my hair is between 3b 3c and 3d
