Staycation at the citizenM Times Square + Frieze New York Art Fair
I had the most amazing staycation at the citizenM Times, and also attended the Frieze New York Art Fair this weekend. Let me tell you all about it!
May 19, 2015
On Thursday I attended a Blogger Experience Event at the citizenM Times Square and let me tell you guys, I had an AMAZING time. I went to a Photography Master Class at the hotel last Summer and it’s such a gorgeous space. There was a contest to win an overnight stay and I was so sad that I didn’t win, but this time around an overnight stay was part of the itinerary. So I was super excited about my staycation. Warning, this post is extremely picture heavy. But what’s a good post without lots of pictures eh?! 🙂
Now before I go into details about the event I just have to show you my room. All of the room’s at the citizenM are compact and really utilizes the space to include everything that you need for a comfortable stay, including a super duper comfy XL king-sized bed. The room is the perfect size for a single traveler or couple. Let me take you on a tour.
A chair to chillax and bedside table
All rooms include a tablet that can control the lights, blinds, tv and music. Unfortunately my tablet had an issue with the battery and since I was out most of the night it was never fixed. Can’t wait to try it out next time I stay (I’m speaking it into existence ;).)
I love pillows and these were very fluffy and comfortable. There’s a flat screen conveniently wall mounted right over the bed.
A nice little workspace and charging station.
The bathroom kind of reminds me of an airplane restroom but not in a bad way. It’s actually very cozy and that rainfall showerhead was everything. Combined with the awesome body wash I did not want to get out of the shower.
The closet had enough space for me to store all of my clothing and there is also a large under bed drawer if you need additional storage.
The sink area included a mini fridge with complimentary water (that really came in handy later on in the night) and a vanity with perfect lighting. I just had to take a selfie after I was all dressed for the evening…
I’m wearing Lulu’s Pleasant Surplice Dress.
Don’t you just love the carpet in the halls? I did. Moving on, the first part of the evening included welcome drinks and a delicious assortment of sushi. I am going to need to find out the supplier as everything was so fresh and delicious. The Pineapple Margaritas were delicious as well. citizenM sure knows how to welcome you!
Everyone chit chatted and introduced ourselves, and then we split up in pairs to take a “test” to figure out our Citizen Artistic Personalities.
I teamed up with Corey (who was super awesome) and scored a B, a Fashion Citizen equal to Andy Warhol. Here I am in front of my chosen piece by Andy Warhol, “Reigning Queens (Royal Edition): Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands” .
The next part of the event was an art work shop at Painting Lounge so we headed on over.
I so wasn’t expecting the walk (I thought the work shop was at the hotel) but thank goodness that my heels were comfortable lol.
When we arrived at Painting Studio everything was ready for us, including an array of food and drinks which were replenished throughout the evening. I absolutely love painting parties so I went straight to work.
Everyone had a good time painting our masterpieces and mingling. It was so much fun. Here is my final piece…
Our photograher Jorge caught me taking pics with my selfie stick (which I take everywhere these days lol)
Here’s all of us with our finished pieces…
We then took Ubers back to the hotel and enjoyed drinks from canteenM while playing Cards Against Humanity in the lobby. If you’ve never played then you must try it, it’s such a fun game with lots of laughs. Speaking of the lobby, it’s a stunner. The surrounding art is breathtaking and it’s so cozy and comfortable.
I slept like a baby in my super duper comfy XL king-sized bed, took the longest shower ever and enjoyed a delicious breakfast consisting of chicken apple sausage, eggs, chocolate croissant, fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and a cappuccino (yes, I know I’m greedy) before I checked out and headed to work. I felt totally rejuvenated and refreshed.
As if citizenM hadn’t treated us to enough, we all received tickets to the Frieze New York Art Fair along with tickets to take the bus or ferry over to Randall’s Island, so my son and I hopped on the ferry and attended on Sunday.
Frieze New York is an international contemporary art fair that launched in May 2012. It’s different from other art fairs as it focuses on contemporary art and living artists. The exhibiting galleries represent the most exciting artists working today from around the globe. The focus on contemporary artists is also evident in Frieze Projects, New York, a program of talks and artist commissions presented at the fair. Frieze New York is housed in a bespoke temporary structure, which is located in Randall’s Island Park, Manhattan. You can find more info here.
