Recently while browsing the beauty aisles at Target I came across a foundation that made me do a double take. First of all I had never seen it before and secondly I just could not get over the price. Less than $5 for a foundation seemed unreal to me as you can barely find anything under $10 in the drugstore these days, at least here in NYC. Anyway there it was, Black Radiance Color Perfect Oil Free Liquid Makeup. The foundation comes in six shades, all catering to the brown skinned beauties. Oil Free was music to this oily girl’s ears and since the price was so low I picked up two, Rum Spice and Brownie.

It comes in a short and wide 1 ounce bottle with a little spatula connected to the applicator which makes it easy to apply directly to your (clean) face or spill some out on a palette.

Rum Spice, Brownie

The foundation provides medium coverage but can be built up and layered for full coverage, and dries to a matte finish. It is easy to apply and blends well but you must work fast as it dries extremely quick. I like to dab it onto my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin, blend with a flat powder brush and layer as necessary. Usually I’m able to cover everything in two coats without the use of a concealer. If you’re not very fast it is best to apply in sections in order to have enough time to blend before it dries. Rum Spice is slightly light for my Summer complexion and leans a little yellow but oxidizes to a good match. Brownie seems like a perfect match when swatched but I found that it’s slightly too dark after it oxidizes, although the undertone is perfect. Here is how both shades look on me with a complete face…

Brownie is a great match for my Summer complexion, but it may be slightly too dark for Winter is slightly too dark for Winter. Rum Spice is a better match for my complexion once my Summer tan fades. The foundation wears well throughout the work day, at least 8 hours without having to blot more than twice. I find that it applies and blends best over a silicon based primer. When used with a creamy primer it made me look really dry until it settled. Bottom line this is a great foundation for the price tag and it’s worth a shot.

  1. Great review…btw, what is that lip color you’re wearing with the Brownie pic? It looks so good on you! So ready for fall lippies…

  2. I’m new to this whole make up thing lol….can you give me some suggestions on the silicone based primer you are referring to? Thanks!

  3. Nice! Just stumbled on your page. Will try the foundation out but am a Marykay 507 what do you think will be the best shade for me to get because I live in Nigeria and stores don’t allow trying out the foundation before purchasing. Thanks

  4. Hello, I saw this foundation today in Brownie shade. The sales girl felt it would be too light for me. I am a MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation NW55 shade. What do you think? How dark are you so I can compare?
