I love a good pencil dress along with pencil skirts. It’s one of the cuts that flatters me best. Tapered in the waist with a lot of stretch and I’m on it. This jersey pencil dress was one of the first things that caught my eye on my recent visit to the new H&M Flagship Store on 48th St and 5th Ave. I always find H&M to bit a bit overwhelming but this particular store takes the cake as it’s simply huge, the largest in the world. My favorite part of the store is the home section. It reminds of Ikea and had some really cute stuff for home decor so I will be going back. Back to the clothes though I went in the fitting room twice trying on at least 10 different pieces and in the end I only went home with two, this dress and a heavy jersey pencil skirt. A lot of the stuff just did not work for my figure.
This pencil dress has the perfect amount of stretch and hugs every curve without being too tight. It’s one of those pieces that I wish I could find in multiple colors as it is great for day to night wear. You can just throw on a blazer and pumps for work and switch to a sexier shoe and lose the blazer for evening wear. The only negative is that it doesn’t have a zipper so I have to fight to get it on over my head, thank goodness it stretches.
I wore this dress to work yesterday and afterwards to a private listening party for
a new hip hop artist out of Atlanta Musiq Soulchild’s new alter ego, The Husel. I really like his sound which is a nice fusion of Hip Hop and R&B, and although the sound is nothing new he definitely had a few tunes (two) that I can see myself grooving to. Be on the lookout for his mixtape later this Summer. Anyway, this dress was perfect as I was comfortable while still looking classy, sexy and both appropriate for work and the event.
My dress is currently sold out on H&M’s website but you can look for it in a store near you. The shoes are from the Zara Spring/Summer 2013 Collection and unfortunately are no longer available but you can get a similar style from Steve Madden (thanks Shamika.)
