Breakups to Makeup, Turning A Negative Into A Positive

Breakups to Makeup

Breakups to Makeup launched in June 2013 to spread the message that makeup is more than just a product but also a form of art. Makeup serves as a creative outlet to those applying it, and livens the spirits of those wearing it. This is the message that founder Angelique Velez wanted to convey when starting the brand but Breakups to Makeup is more than just a brand, it’s a possibility that no matter what happens you can chin-up and and meet the horizon with direct gaze. I attended the One Year Anniversary and Official Press Launch Party and was able to chat it up a little with Angelique and get a closer look at the line up.

“As makeup artists, makeup is our form of art. It is our outlet and our release. No matter what we are going through in life it is the reason why we get out of bed. Makeup is a true form of art that let’s us not only express ourselves, but also makes others happy. Personally, going through difficult times in my own life (ahem, a breakup), makeup literally saved me and served as my outlet to devote my time and energy. Many people don’t understand that makeup to us is not “just” a product, but our creative outlet. I wanted to spread this message in a quirky way, hence the birth of B2M.”

-Angelique Velez

Angelique has been a makeup artist for 8 years. She was going through a tough situation in her life that inspired her to create Breakups to Makeup and the brand was born. It started out with just the “Love Made Me Lipstick Saved Me” clutch and has since expanded to tees, tanks, beenies and phone accessories all with sassy yet self-empowering makeup sayings. Instead of letting a negative situation get her down Angelique turned it into a positive, a outlet to help someone else who may be going through a tough time.

The products are not only popular to those interested in makeup, but for the fashion and accessory lovers as well. Breakups to Makeup serves as a staple for self-expression. “To the person whose heart was broken and buried themselves in the darkest of places, to the cancer patient who has lost all her hair yet finds comfort in that perfect shade of lipstick, to the person who has a genuine love for makeup; Breakups to Makeup is for you.”

When I’m not hunting down the latest and greatest beauty products, beating a face or lacing a do, you can find me roaming the streets of NYC in my stilettos looking for the next best restaurant. Or in the kitchen trying to outdo myself from the last time.

I absolutely followed someone on youtube, who was suffering from cancer (beautybyleelee) and found great relief in makeup. Great find.

This is awesome, I love her quirky phrases but even more I love her philosophy on make up, I agree make up is absolutely an art form!

This is what I’m talking about using the name of beauty as an out reach not to be vain or degrading but to uplift people in need of encouragement
