As much as I love MAC I haven’t tried many of their foundations. The very first face product that I tried from the brand was the blot powder and it broke me out horribly. It took almost a year to fade all of the dark spots. That experience made me apprehensive to try any other face products but eventually I tried the Studio Fix Powder and the Mineralize Skinfinish Natural without any problems, but still stopped there. I always wanted to try a liquid foundation from MAC but see so many reviews with people experiencing breakouts so I was scared. I’ve pretty much depleted my foundation arsenal and have been looking for new brands to try so I decided to start with MAC.
MAC Matchmaster Foundation uses shade intelligence technology to adjust to different complexions. It comes in 14 shades and each shade adjusts to many different complexions. The foundation doesn’t come in regular MAC shades such as NW and NC but instead in numbers. It contains broad spectrum SPF15 to provide protection from the sun and provides medium to full demi-matte coverage. The foundation is supposed to reduce shine and absorb excess oil while conditioning the skin and minimizing the appearance of pores. I went to the store and swatched a few shades on my jawline and let them set, then went outside to check them in natural light. 8.0 was a perfect match for me.
8.0 leans neutral, not too red and not too yellow. I have both red and yellow undertones in my skin, more yellow in the Winter and more red in the Summer so neutral shades work best for me. When the foundation oxidizes it leans slightly more warm but does not make me look orange like some foundations can. I’ve been testing it out for a week and I am totally impressed. I have combination skin with a very oily t-zone and MAC Matchmaster stays put all day long. I only have to blot once mid day and that’s my nose. I’ve been getting at least 12 hours of wear (with a primer underneath and set with powder) and my makeup looks just as flawless when I get home as it did when I left. I have yet to experience any breakouts (fingers crossed.) I apply with either a damp sponge or a stippling brush and 3 small pumps covers my entire face. Here is how the foundation looks on…
I am really loving the MAC Matchmaster Foundation and can’t wait to try a few more from the brand. If you’re an oily girl you should definitely give it a shot. Available at MAC Cosmetics $34
Have you tried any of MAC’s foundations? What’s your favorite?

It looks beautiful on you. I’m oily and need coverage. I’m going to try it. Thanks!
Thank you so much. Sounds like this would be perfect for you… you’re welcome 🙂
Very pretty!
Thank you, Davina!
Ok, may I say BAM!!! You nailed it! Serving such a fierce face with the bone structure to stop traffic. This doesn’t look like make-up. It looks like your skin. If I may, I’ve never seen a foundation that matches and compliments you so well. If I were you, I’d never look back. From one fellow brown Barbie beauty to another, you look mah-velous, dawling…Tehehehe ☺️
Lol thank you so much hon and you are absolutely right. Wearing this foundation has made me see that some of my others lean too yellow. I’m definitely in love with Matchmaster!
definitely one of my faves! it’s the only foundation other than my revlon colorstay that i’ve finished up in less than a year. thanks for sharing!
No problem Joanne. I used to love Colorstay but realized that Cappucino was actually too dark for me and I had to mix it with Photoready Cappucino. It got annoying so when I ran out the last time I never repurchased.
Looks gorgeous! Thanks for the review
Thank you Fredetta and you’re welcome!
I love this foundation! It’s one of my favorites. What blush is that you’re wearing, it looks amazing on your skin!!! I love your blog!
Thank you Toya. I’m wearing La Femme blush in Sienna layered over NARS Laguna Illuminator.
Flawless!!!
Thank you Cynthia!
I have been wanting to try the Matchmaster Foundation for awhile and need to get a color match for it. I have been loving the Pro Longwear Foundation and it’s amazing but the shade NW50 is too light to wear alone but I have the NW50 Pro Longwear Concealer to mix it with the foundation to get the right color for my skintone.
I really like the Prolongwear Concealer. Maybe one day I’ll try the Foundation
To even say I rely on you for my daily look would be an understatement thank u Hun x
You are so welcome! 🙂
Hi Erica,
This is absolutely gorgeous. You said you were able to fade out your dark spots, could you please share what regime you used? My face has gotten darker than my neck over the years and I want to get my complexion back.
Thank you. Ive been using Trader Joes Spa Face Wash with Tea Trea Oil and Wich Hazel to tone.
Thank you
Nice review! I have the exact same foundation. I actually had to switch from 8.0 to 7.5. The 7.5 matches my skin DEAD ON! I apply literally a small amount and the coverage is BOMB! xoxo, Eb
I love this foundation as well. If you’re looking to try more from MAC, try the Studio Fix Fluid. It’s great if you’re looking for full coverage
Thank you. I think I’ll be trying that next!
I just discovered your blog and I am in love with everything Erica! What lipstick is that you are wearing? You are stunning!
Thank you, glad that you are enjoying it. I believe that I am wearing MAC RiRi Woo, if not then it’s Ruby Woo.
Hi Erica – can you tell me what primer you use underneath and what you use to finish your look? I believe you said powder. Thanks .
I use a few different primers but one of my faves is Black Radiance Complexion Perfection. I always set with Ben Nye Neutral Set Powder
I usually wear NW45 , which number in the match master should I get??
I’m usually NW45 as well
What did you do (or use) to fade your dark spots?
I love 8.0 as well, but for the pass months ….Mac no longer have it in stock!! I have search high and low and no results. Please help and restock or post to customers that it’s no longer available. I heard 8.0 Matchmaster was discontinued, I truly hope not!!!!!
I’m not sure as I haven’t used this foundation in a few years. But I hope it wasn’t discontinued. It’s one of my faves!
This is really beautiful. Between 7.5 and 8.0 which one is lighter thn the other?
