When I say that I’ve been on the search for this concealer for months, I’ve been looking for months! None of my local beauty supply stores carry it and I’ve been putting in requests to no avail. I recently hit bottom on my MAC Pro Longwear Concealer and said that I’m just going to bite the bullet and order a few online to try out since I’ve seen numerous reviews comparing the LA Girl Concealer to the Pro Longwear. After searching online for swatches I decided on Toffee for my highlight shade and Chestnut to conceal.
The L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer is a lightweight concealer with opaque coverage, in a supposedly crease free formula that camouflages under eye circles, redness and blemishes with a natural looking finish. It comes in 18 shades with a large selection geared toward women of color. The concealer comes in a squeeze tube with a brush which some may find unsanitary. You have to squeeze gently as to not disperse too much product since you only need a little bit. You can use the brush to apply the concealer but I squeeze mine onto a metal palette to work from there.
I find Toffee to be the perfect highlight shade for my NW45 skin. It’s about 2 shades lighter than my complexion and leans slightly yellow but not too much.
Toffee, MAC Pro Longwear NW40
Here is Toffee compared to my usual highlighting concealer, MAC Pro Longwear in NW40. It is a shade lighter and slightly more yellow than the Pro Longwear. The LA Girl Pro concealer is more creamy where as the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer has more of a liquid consistency. They provide similar coverage and dries down to pretty much the same semi-matte finish.
Chestnut, Toffee, MAC Pro Longwear NW40
Chestnut is the perfect match for my NW45 skin to conceal my old acne scars and blemishes. It leans between warm and neutral, definitely not too orange or red. As I look at the shades blended out and drying I realize that the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer is actually not the right color for me as it leans way too pink. I guess I hadn’t noticed since I always set it with my Ben Nye Banana Powder and since it’s yellow it neutralizes it. Speaking of drying, you have to work really fast to blend as this concealer dries fast. Below I used Chestnut to conceal my blemishes under my foundation, and then I used Toffee on top of my foundation to highlight my under eye area, middle of forehead, bridge of nose and under lip set with Ben Nye Banana Powder…
Here is how my face looked 5 hours later in more natural lighting…
Now here is a closer look at my under eye area…
As you can see my right eye has started to crease slightly but my left eye is still in tact with no creasing. Throughout the day it did not crease any further than this. Now my under eye area is my problem area. I suffer from really bad dark circles and bags as I usually don’t sleep enough, and the area stays pretty dry. The LA Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer actually gives me great results compared to other concealers that I have used. If you don’t have really bad dark circles than you will love this concealer. Now if you have really bad under eye circles like I do I would suggest using a corrector, than your foundation followed by this concealer. That is what I plan to do. Also if your under eye area is dry moisturize thoroughly and give it time to sink in as this concealer will highlight dryness.
Overall I am really impressed with the L.A. Girl Pro Conceal HD Concealer and will be using it for now on in place of my MAC Pro Longwear. I just have to practice using different application methods to see what works best. I will also be ordering the rest of the shades for my kit. The concealer retails from $1.99-$3.50 depending on where you purchase. This concealer is cruelty free.
I LOVE this concealer! It’s amazing. You and I are the same skin tone and I use Chesnut and Toast for my scars, use Toffee or Fawn for a daytime highlight, and Cool tan for a night out on the town when I want a BAM in your face highlight. I’m glad you like them!
Thank you for the shade suggestions!
This looks pretty good. I’m about the same skin tone too, so I may give the Chestnut a try. You’d think in NYC we’d be able to find these somewhere! I hate paying shipping unnecessarily.
I feel you. I can’t believe it’s so hard to find here!
Great review! i have the Fawn
Thank you. I wanted to try that one but it was sold out 🙁
so glad you reviewed these….I’ve been hearing rave reviews but had no idea which color to try. I saw them in a family dollar in my area…they had a huge selection not sure if they have that store up North tho lollll
Thanks hon. Yes we do lol. I have to be in the vicinity of one next week so I will surely check and see if they have it! 🙂
Thanks mzmore I asked you about this on IG last week , glad its here what shade of ben nye powder can you suggest as an under eye highlight using nw 40 concealer asides the banana powder?.
Thank you 🙂
No problem hon. I only use Banana Powder to highlight and Neutral Set to set the rest of my face and haven’t tried any of the other powders so I can’t give any suggestions there. If you do a quick Google search I’m sure something will come up 🙂
the only conealers i’ve been using for the past 6 months! i love how thin it is without being super watery. definitely a must have! thanks for sharing!
No problem at all. I’m so in love can’t believe I waited so long to get it!
You can find them at the Beauty Supply stores on 125th near the American apparel/MAC store for 1.99. I’m an NW45/NC50 and i use toffee to highlight. i heard fawn is a good shade too, it kinda has corrector properties but it is lighter than toffee. I also use a beauty blender to apply and its amaze balls.
Thank you so much. That’s not too far from my job so I may have to stop by there one day after work. I’ve been holding out on the beauty blender but I may break down and buy one lol
I recently won a YouTube contest where I won a Beauty Blender and a Real Techniques Complexion Sponge. I have used them both numerous times…they are the same thing! And I think I actually lean towards the Real Techniques sponge more because it the slanted side. It is awesome!
I’m going to have to look into that one. Maybe I’ll try them both to compare. Thanks!
to answer “s” question, Ben Nye powder in Topaz and Dolce are also good alternatives (that i have used for everyday) but there are more shades. They are not as light as Banana though
You look GORGEOUS Erica. I’m a Harlem girl too and couldn’t find these doggone concealers. Had to go online. I am NC50 and use Fawn, which is a great highlight. I would like to try Toffee for a more subdued highlight. Shout out to Sylvia for the suggestions on where to find them on 125th Street.
Thank you Erica! I’m actually a Brooklyn girl and can’t believe that I haven’t been able to find these concealers. I’ve only looked in my neighborhood I must admit, but I will order online before I run all over Brooklyn looking lol. I’m going to check out the spot in Harlem though as Sylvia suggested.
Thanks so much for this review!!!
Love the LA girl concealers. I use Fawn, toast and chestnut…..
I love them as well. I need to make an order of for all of the shades to keep in my MUA Kit, they are that good!
I’m an NW44 and I highlight with the fawn.. its amazing. Please what lipstick do you have on in the pic thoe? its gorge!
Thank you. I believe I’m wearing Laqa & Co Lil Lip Pencil in Ring of Fire
I am also NW44!! What la girl pro concealer do you use to contour?
I don’t use this concealer to contour
I wanna try this. If I’m nw42 in mac prolongwear. What shade should I get in this?! Please reply! X
Maybe try Pure Beige, Cool Tan and Warm Honey to combine and adjust for under the eye and all over the face.
Thanks! But I got my shade wrong, lol sorry! I’m nc42 in concealer and nc40 in foundation. I’ve ordered fawn and natural beige I think.
Your concealer shouldn’t be darker than your foundation…
when I went to mac store, they’ve advices me that as I have dark circles. Tbf, it works the way they’ve told me to apply it. x also everytime I’ve tried a lighter concealer or even same shade, with and without a peachy corrector, it made me look ashy. x
Ok got you. As long as you’ve found a routine that works for you 🙂
Just read this. I have NW55 skin and use NW50 as a concealer. I was wondering what color of LA pro concealer would be best as a highlight ?
You can try Chestnut, it’s the same as NW45
Please can I just use la pro concealer in toffee without my foundation then set wit the banana powder. …I use black up foundation …
I don’t see why not. I’ve never tried this but it has pretty good coverage so you should be fine
I’m NC50 in MAC….I wanna use the concealer as a foundation…what color is good?THANKS
I’m assuming that you would be Chestnut or Beautiful Bronze. I only have Toffee, Fawn and Chestnut so I’m not very sure of the other shades.
I wear the Mac Nw45 which La Girl would I purchase? I would like to contour more than conceal.
I’m assuming Dark Cocoa should work. I don’t have it so I can’t confirm.
It looks like we could be the same skin tone. I was wondering, what shades do you wear? I was thinking of the Beautiful Bronze and the Espresso. Do you have any of these two? Or do you think they would be too light for my NW45 skin tone.
I have Chestnut to conceal which is the color of my skin tone (NW45), it would be too light to contour with.
Sorry to bombard you with questions. This is quiet new to me. But I also wear black radiance in a medium loose powder, what will conseal with this? I apologize for so many questions.
No problem at all but I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking…
Sometimes I wear Black Radiance loose powder foundation in a Medium. Which LA Girl Pro Concealer would work with this foundation? I would like for my skin to look brighter.
I’ve never tried this foundation. I’m not sure what you’re trying to do as first you said you wanted to contour now you’re saying that you want your skin to look brighter. Are you trying to highlight? I’m sorry but I can’t help you if I don’t know what you’re trying to do
I guess im trying to try both. HIghlighting and contouring.
So you can try Toffee to highlight and Dark Cocoa to Contour.
I love this concealer! I reach for it over my M.A.C Select Cover Up and that use to be my holy grail concealer. I use Toast to cover any blemishes and Cool Tan to highlight. My complexion is a NC 50. I just purchased Fawn also. It is slightly darker than Cool Tan for those days when I want my highlight toned down just a little. Overall these concealers are great quality and the price is amazing. I purchased them from my local beauty supply store for $1.99.
Hey I’m a nc30 in Mac what shade should I use to highlight?
I only have Toffee and Fawn at the moment, none of which would be a match for you so I am not exactly sure.
where can i buy them?
Check your local Beauty Supply Store and if you can’t find them you can order online at ikatehouse.com
Hey EricaI’ NC44 in Mac Pro longwear.. what color should i use for highlight and contour in LA Pro? Also is this cealer camera friendly?
Hi Mini, I haven’t picked up all of the shades yet, only Toffee, Fawn and Chestnut so I’m not exactly sure which you need. It is camera friendly as I use it in all my looks/photos. It can sometimes look very bright with flash though if you put too much.
Hello Erica, I’m dark skin, pls which shade can u recommend I use to highlight and contour,I await ur response, thanks xx
Hi Ola. I can’t recommend shades off of you being dark skin as there are many different skin tones and complexions. Also, I only have 3 shades myself. I plan to get the rest of the shades soon so that I can swatch them all for reference and be able to make recommendations.
Ok thanks for your response x
No problem hun
Hey, I am an NW50 in Mac foundation, which la pro girl concealer do you recommend I get? It’s mainly for dark patches and my eyebrows.
I can not be sure as I don’t have all of the shades yet to check swatches and give recommendations other than to those with my same complexion.
Hello Erica, My foundation shade is nc50 what would be a good shade in this concealer to contour and highlight?
Hello,i have a dark skin co
lour, what colour of L.A concealer will i use for highlighting and contouring? Thanks.
I use Mac select cover up in NW40 and was interested in knowing is that the same as the Mac Pro Long Wear Concealer? That way I’ll know if purchasing Toffee in the LA Pro concealer would be the right shade for me.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Kenya. I have no clue if NW40 in Select Cover Up is the same shade as NW40 Pro-Longwear as I have no experience with Select Cover Up. Sorry.
Hello your photos are gorgeous!! My skin tone is MAC NW40 which LA Girl concealer would you recommend? I highlight with NC45 which LA Girl Concealer would you recommend for that? Thanks
Thank you. Since I don’t have the full collection of the LA Girl concealers and haven’t swatched them, I can’t really recommend shades for you. I would recommend that you do a Google search.
Hey can you help me I wear Mac studio sculpt NW 35? What would be the perfect regular shade concealer and one for highlighting use ?
I do not have the entire shade range so unfortunately I can’t help
I recently purchased sum Coverfx G60 its for medium deep skin with golden undertone and I wanna know what shade la girl concealer should use ?
It depends on what you want to do with the concealer. I don’t have the full range of shades to suggest one for you though, you should google swatches as you will be able see all of the shades
Hi Erica. I purchased lapro concealer in toffee from a store in Lagos. It brought out liquid before the concealer. I had to shake it. It did a good job though. Please is this typical of the concealer and how does it smell? kindly reply ASAP as I am about throwing it away. thanks
This is normal behavior for this concealer, happens to mine all the time. It smells like, well like concealer. Hope that helps.
Hi, What LA concealer would you recommend, I use the MAC Studio Fix Fluid NW46?
I have a quick question I wear nw45 in Mac and I just want to know if you knew which concealer I could buy please. Thanks in advance

Do you know where to find those concealer? ‘Cause I don’t know where she is stayin for the moment and I don’t know where they are selling it. Very hard to find on the internet. Can you help me and give me names of the stores and the location please? ???
Hey hun. NYC and Miami are not actually near each other at all. You can try online, ikatehouse sells them for sure. I usually find them in my local beauty supply store

Hi,i just wanted to ask, fawn is my exact skin tone so please which one do you think i could use for my highlight and contour

You can do a google search. I don’t own the full range of shades, so I’m not sure.

Hello, I live in Dallas my Birthday is this Friday. ..I use NW45 …..you and I are the same tone….little dark under eye ,not much. …need help with this Make up process. ….do you have email or Facebook
Hi Erica. Bought my 1st L.A. Girl Concealer in Toffee (undereye) and Toast (general spotcheck) today from Ricky’s NYC on sale for $3.75 (reg. $5). I hope I got the shades right but I’ll post a follow up review. Can’t beat the price – I’m a NARS (Amanda) & Bobby Brown (Almond) girl and you know those prices ?
I hope it works out 🙂
OMG!! Thank you so much for this review. This is exactly what I was looking for. I tried warm honey for a highlight and it was waay too ‘ashy’ for my skin tone which I believe is NW45 as well.
