I’ve been using Urban Decay Primer Potion for years and don’t veer away too much as it works for me and my oily lids. Nonetheless I am always curious of other primers to see how they compare so I was glad to receive the Senna Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer for review.

Senna Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer

Senna Totally Transforming Eyeshadow Primer boasts to be anti-aging and rich with antioxidants and botanical peptides providing a smooth, neutral and long-wear surface for eye colors. Color magnet, eyelid color corrector, wrinkle minimizer, and eyeshadow fixative contains firming Hibiscus and brightening Sleepy Morning extracts. Combats dusting, disappearing, and creasing. It is housed in little twist top jars and you can apply with your fingers or a brush which is more hygienic. It comes in 3 shades Light, Medium and Tan.

All of  the shades are very light on my dark skin as you can see. However this is not a problem as it still serves it’s purpose as a neutral base for eyeshadow application and it will not be seen once applied. It has the consistency of a cream concealer (think MAC Studiofinish) and blends well. A little goes a long way and it does appear to make eyeshadow a little more vibrant, here I swatched one of my shadows without a base and then over each color respectively…

Now here is where the problem lies. I have super oily lids and a primer has to be really good to keep my eyeshadow at least for the entire work day without fading or creasing (ahem UDPP.) When I wear this primer I can barely get 7 hrs wear out of it without it creasing. Here is my eye makeup freshly applied about 7:30 am…

Now I’ve been testing it out with neutral shades so it won’t be so noticeable but you can clearly see the creasing. For reference I used MAC eyeshadows for this look. By the time I arrived home at 6:30 pm the entire middle section of my eyeshadow was completely gone. Thank goodness it wasn’t visible with my eyes open. So if you have oily lids stay away, this one is not meant for us. If you have drier lids you can give it a shot but I’m sure you can find something better for cheaper as these little jars will set you back $24. I can’t vouch for the anti-aging benefits as I won’t be using it long enough to find out. I’m usually thrilled with Senna’s products but this one is a disappointment.
