I’ve been trying out the Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder for the past few days and I am definitely loving it. I have a nice size sample which will probably last me forever since you only need a very small amount. Amazonian Clay is supposed to balance skin by hydrating, reducing the appearance of dry flaky skin, improving clarity and texture and absorbing oil for a flawless finish. The formula contains no parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, synthetic fragrance or triclosan.
The translucent powder is contained in a sifter jar with a few holes to shake the powder out. It has a stopper to close up the holes when not in use. This keeps it from getting too messy. I usually shake what I need into the top and use a powder puff to pick it up and press it into my skin.
It is really fine, silky smooth and melts right into the skin. At first it appears to leave a white cast but as it settles it blends in with your complexion and disappears leaving a flawless matte finish. It is very light on the skin and not cakey at all. Here I am wearing it over my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer…
I haven’t been using it long enough to test all of the benefits but it definitely absorbs oil and leaves my face looking fresh all day. Used along with a primer I don’t need to blot at all, it really keeps the oil at bay in my oily t-zone. It can also be worn alone without foundation.
I really like the Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder but probably won’t be buying it when I run out since it’s pretty steep at $29 a jar. I don’t mind paying good money for beauty products that work but my Ben Nye Neutral Set Setting Powder performs just as well at a fraction of the cost. You can purchase the powder at tartecosmetics.com.
