I recently stopped in American Apparel to do some browsing and ran into the lipgloss display. The only color that stood out to me was African Violet, a creamy purple. I love me a purple lippie so I just had to pick it up.
African Violet goes on very sheer but can be layered to build up the color. It is not sticky, quite moisturizing, unscented and pretty long lasting. Since it is so sheer and leans neutral, it would work with a variety of skintones.
I layered it quite a bit to get this color payoff. It is pretty on it’s own but would look great layered over a purple lipstick in a similar shade to add shine, or over a pink lipstick to alter the color.
American Apparel lipgloss is cruelty free, fragrance free, petroleum free and made in the USA. It claims to be vitamin enriched, however the ingredients are not listed. The lipgloss comes in 8 other shades and retails for $12, which is a tad bit expensive in my opinion. None of the other shades are anything special and can definitely be duped with other brands. It’s nice to have this shade as an addition to my collection as it works well with one of my fave lippies, Inglot Gel Lipstick in #65. It also matches perfectly with my MAC Go For It lipstick. However I do not plan to purchase any more of these lippies.

I like it, it’s a little lighter than All my purple life by Mac. I’m wondering why all the blogs that no longer use google’s friend connect still shows up in my reading list in Blogger.
Those that missed All Of My Purple Life would like this one!
When you subscribe to a blog via Google Friend Connect, it adds the blog to Google Reader. Your Blogger Feed and Google Reader are connected so you should still see updates unless Google changes something after they discontinue Friend Connect. Hope that helps!
That is SO PRETTY! We have an AA here in town, but I’ve never gone inside, I might have to after seeing this.
You should check out AA. They have some pretty polishes too!
Love this too!
You’re another woman of color that inspires me to want to step out of my comfort zone & choose colors as vibrant as this! Very nice.
I love vibrant colors, and to think a few years ago you couldn’t pay me to wear bright makeup… definitely lipstick 🙂
