I reviewed the Sleek Molten Metal Eyeshadow Duo in Gold Leaf & Pewter when it was released earlier this year and I was not too impressed. Though the colors are gorgeous the eyeshadow failed performance wise and creased badly, you can see my review on the performance here. Sleek recently released the Molten Metal Metallic Eyeshadow Duo in Silver. I was excited to try it as I wanted to see if the formula has been improved and if it performs better than it’s sister duo.
The Sleek Molten Metal Metallic Eyeshadow Duo in Silver consists of two shades of cream eyeshadows, Steel & Ash. The shadows are very pigmented and really creamy. They glide onto the skin like butter. As the name suggests, it really mimics molten metal.
Left Steel, Right Ash
I actually like the shades in the silver duo better than the shades in the gold duo as there is more of a distinction between the two shades.
Left Molten Metal Duo Silver, Molten Metal Duo Gold on the Right
Left to Right: Steel, Ash, Pewter & Gold Leaf
Now Sleek claims that the Molten Metal cream eyeshadows are long lasting and doesn’t crease like most cream eyeshadows. So did the Molten Metal Silver Duo perform better than the Gold Duo? No it did not. Even with a primer and setting the shadows with a powder eyeshadow it still creased in less than an hour. Another fail. The ingredients contain the emollients Beewax, Jojoba Oil & Shea Butter and though these ingredients are usually good for your skin, I don’t think they are very good for this type of eyeshadow and may be the cause of the creasing. I am very disappointed as the colors in these duos are so pretty but Sleek really needs to work on the formula. Maybe a cream to powder based formula is in order, no?!
The Molten Metal eyeshadow duos will only work if being used for a short period of time, for example a photo shoot or quick look for the runway. If you plan to wear these all day or even for a night out with the girls where you will sweat a lot don’t even bother.
