ORS Olive Oil Edge Control

Relaxed or natural, sistas all over seem to always be searching for that one product to tame them edges. I know I am. I like to stretch my relaxers for up to four months and I usually have no problems doing so, except for my edges. Usually I am wearing some type of install where I need my edges to blend well and lay down, and they always start to misbehave about 1 month post relaxer.  They get dry and nappy, no sugar coating over here. It seems as if whatever I try it doesn’t cut it. My edges will lay down for an hour or two and after that it’s a wrap. Well sistas search no more because I’ve found the holy grail product to tame them edges… ORS Olive Oil Edge Control!

Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Edge Control is a clear, lightweight jam. It is not greasy or sticky in texture and a small amount holds down your edges without making them hard. It contains Olive Oil which is rich in essential fatty acids, Aloe which is a great moisturizer and Wheat Protein to strengthen hair and reduce breakage. It does not contain any alcohol which can be very drying and damaging to your hair.

Now I have to tell you, this stuff is the bees knees! While on vacay in Sobe, I was having an extremely hard time getting my edges to lay down with the extreme heat and humidity. They were puffing up and no longer blending well with my Wagman’s French Body Wave Install. A friend bought this product for her hair and after trying it out I just had to get a jar of my own. It laid my edges down and held up the entire day. I even went to the beach, pool and the club… and my edges were still in tact. My edges were nice and shiny and blended perfectly with my install, and the ORS Edge Control did not dry them out.

What a difference!

I’ve had my current install in for 8 weeks and I am about 10 weeks post relaxer, yet the ORS Olive Oil Edge Control is still holding up. My edges aren’t slicked straight down as shown in the picture above since I have accumulated more new growth, however the Edge Control creates a wave pattern similar to that of my install and allows my edges to stay in place all day. Without this product I would have taken down a perfectly fine install about 2 weeks ago due to my misbehaving edges.

If using Edge control in the day, I take a dime size amount and disperse it evenly on my edges. I take a medium density bristled brush and brush my edges into place and go. If using at night, I follow the same steps and tie my edges down with a silk scarf.

Pros:

  • moisturizes and smooths edges without hardening
  • contains vital nutrients
  • does not contain alcohol
  • non-greasy or sticky
  • lasts all day
  • great for relaxed or natural hair
  • light weight

Cons:

  • Can cause slight buildup when using daily. Not a problem if you wash your hair frequently.
  • Extremely hard to find in stores.

This product retails for *$4+ ($7+ shipped) but good luck finding it. I am running out and have not been able to find this product in any drugstore or beauty supply store. I went to my local beauty supply store and was told that they just can’t keep it on the shelves. They are supposed to be getting an order in next week and I asked to have a jar or two put on hold. If you can’t find the Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Edge Control in a store near you, it is currently available through Amazon.

You must go out and find yourself a jar now!

  1. After looking around in about 5 stores, I finally found it by where I live (go figure). It wasn’t $7 though, I think I may have paid $3-4. I love this product!!!

  2. I am going to have to hunt this stuff down. My old stylist had me using this one cream, but it would dry and get all flaky (which was NOT cute). I like that it is clear.

  3. They have this at Sallys Beauty Supply, I picked it up last night works pretty good so far.

    1. If you have short curly hair it would probably define the curls while giving a bit of stiffness. However I wouldn\’t suggest it for long hair as it would build up fast and make it pretty sticky. You would have to wash frequently.

  4. i bought this wednesday night and it's much better than motions pomade because it's not greasy and my edges are still tamed even after sleeping on it. i found mine at walmart.

  5. I found it at Family Dollar off S. Orange Ave in NJ – $6. I’m natural (4a/b) and my edges waved up a bit. I’m going to try it after cowashing while slightly damp and tie it down and see. It’s not stiff or tacky which is a good thing.

  6. I have had two family members recommend it to me. I decided to do more research. I recently cut my hair (low in back). I asked stylist what did she recommend as for as gel without the flakiness. She told me jam :(. I was like really??? No, mam lol but I will be purchasing today.

  7. This stuff is amazing!!! I took out my braids yesterday and I had some place to be at the end of the day. I hadn’t permed my hair in 6 months, so as you can imagine, my hair was a nightmare!! I was iffy about getting this product at first because I couldn’t afford to waste my money (college student lol) I am SO GLAD I bought this product because it worked wonders. My natural hair is not curly or wavy, but this product definitely gave the illusion that my hair was wavy and it also laid flat. Great product!!!

  8. i find for fully natural kinky hair it holds for a little bit and then the hair curls back up, thats what happened with mine. i think its better for permed hair.

    1. You’re right. My new growth would curl back up, however it was soft, shiny and tamed allowing it to blend with the hair still. Probably best when pulling in a pony or the likes where the hair will stay put instead of reverting back 🙂

  9. I start using this product and after a month my edges started to break off.. I discontinued using it.

    1. Everyone’s hair is different so you can’t always expect the same results as some one else. Sorry it didn’t work for you.

    1. This product is used to slick edges down, it’s not a growth aid. Try Jamaican Black Castor Oil.
