I’ve been using the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Secret No. 1 Magic Perfecting Base Face Primer every day and so far I like it. A whole lot.

What it claims:
“The silky, lightweight formula glides onto skin and minimizes the look of pores and fine lines. Skin looks and feels smooth and resurfaced. The result- a unified matte finish that is flawless… A high elastomer content gives the primer it’s unique cushiony texture… while a combination of soft, light powders gives skin a matte look and silky finish.”  -L’Oreal

Ingredients
cyclohexasiloxane, dimethicone, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, silica, acrylates copolymer, disodium stearoyl glutamate, aluminum hydroxide {+/- may contain CI 77891/ titanium dioxide/ CI 77491/ iron oxides} FIL D30587/2

Performance

As I mentioned earlier, I have been using this primer everyday since purchasing it. I cleanse, tone and moisturize my face, and apply the primer over my moisturizer. I take a dime sized amount, dab a bit on my forehead, nose, chin and cheeks, then spread it evenly all over my face. The primer has a light puddy texture but finishes into a silky powder. It is not drying at all. I’ve tried the primer with my MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation and also with my MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural. Both applied smooth over the primer and the primer did give my makeup a more flawless finish. I have an annoying pimple on my left cheek that I am trying to get rid of, and the primer made it a bit less visib

le, NOT invisible but less noticeable. I do not wear liquid foundation so I was not able to test this primer with one.

Now I have combination skin but I get very oily in the T-Zone, especially when I have bangs.  If I don’t use oil absorbing sheets during the day to clean up my nose and forehead, it can look like an oil slick at the end of the day. Here is the biggie, I did not have to use my oil absorbing sheets at all while using this primer! It kept me matte throughout the entire day and kept the oil at bay. At 10 pm the other night there was still no oil, just a slight shine coming through on my nose and forehead. I had applied the primer at 7:30 am. Very impressive.

I had never tried a primer for the face prior to this as I did not really realize the importance. Now I know, and will be wearing a primer from now on. There is one thing I really do not like about this primer though, it is very small and a bit expensive for a drugstore brand. It retails $12.95 USD for a .5 fl oz jar, about the size of a jar of eye cream. In my opinion that is extremely small, I will see how long one jar lasts. However, I like this primer so much that I will continue to purchase it until something better comes along. Since this is my first face primer, I definitely plan to try out some other brands.
