I’ve become totally obsessed with matte liquid lipsticks and reach for them more than my traditional lipsticks. Matte liquids make even the simplest of makeup looks look bomb af. They also work well when going out as you don’t have to touch up your lips as much. The most recent additions to my matte liquids family are the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours in Quite The Standout & Caviar.
The MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours are super pigmented and dry down to a matte, liquid-suede finish. Once dry they are budge proof but not 100% transfer proof. The lipsticks wear well for hours though without requiring a touch up. Unless you eat something oily or drink a lot. They feel amazing on and do not dry out the lips.
The flexible wand applicator has a unique shape that makes the lipstick easy to apply. It’s best to apply a sheer coat and allow to dry. Then apply another coat for complete opaqueness. You can layer these without them flaking or peeling. As long as you apply sheer and build up the color.
Don’t let the subtle color in the tube fool you. Quite The Standout is a super bright orange red that is not for those afraid of color. It’s like if MAC Lady Danger & Black Up 34M had a bright, matte baby. This is my favorite color family for lipsticks. So I’m glad to finally have a matte liquid version. I’ll be reaching for Quite The Standout ALL SUMMER LONG.
My oh my do I love me some Caviar. It’s a straight up deep matte black. Not charcoal. Or dark grey. It’s as black as black lipstick can get. And it looks so sexy on. This is how you do black lipstick like a grown a$$ woman.
The MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours are available at MAC Cosmetics $21
