It’s been 20 years today since we lost Hip Hop Legend Christopher Wallace bka Notorious B.I.G aka Biggie Smalls, to gun violence. A horror I know all too well growing up in Brooklyn. ENY and Bedstuy to be more specific. I remember waking up to the news that Biggie had been murdered on the morning of March 9, 1997. I was heartbroken once again. You see, I hadn’t even gotten over Tupac’s murder six months prior. Both of my favorite male rappers were gone. And I honestly couldn’t believe it.

I was a freshman in high school when both Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. were killed. And honestly, the Rap Game hasn’t been the same since. My son is now a freshman in high school. And the music his generation listens to is straight trash. With a few exceptions (Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole. Off the top of my head.) You either don’t know what these rappers are saying. Or wish you didn’t know since they aren’t talking about a damn thing. I always wonder what Hip Hop would be like if BIG and Pac were still alive. Would they still be in the game? Would they still be beefing? I’ll never know. But what I do know is that their music lives on 20 years later. True Hip Hop Legends.
