Essence Beauty Box

Essence Beauty Box

We have another contender in the subscription beauty box game, this time from Essence Magazine. The Essence Beauty Box is marketed toward women of color and subscribers will receive 5 sample or trial size products, along with tips and tricks from beauty experts. Some of the featured brands include Smashbox, Eden Bodyworks, CURLS, Tarte, L’Occitane, Kimo Bentley, and Ginger + Liz and the box will feature at least one product from a black owned business every month. The first box launches this month at $15 and there are three subscription plans to choose from. Interested? Sign up at

I’m personally not subscribed to any subscription beauty boxes and I’m honestly over the whole craze. Usually I really like one or two products and end up giving the rest away, it’s rare that I love everything included in a box. Anyway, I think that Essence could have really set themselves apart from the competition by featuring all products from black owned businesses (or at least the majority). Why not, it is geared toward us.

What are your thoughts? Will you be subscribing?

When I’m not hunting down the latest and greatest beauty products, beating a face or lacing a do, you can find me roaming the streets of NYC in my stilettos looking for the next best restaurant. Or in the kitchen trying to outdo myself from the last time.

I think that’s a smart move considering just how many subscription box services there are and there aren’t that many that contain products from black owned business. I subscribed to ipsy for a while and never got anything that I was particularly crazy about and ended up cancelling. I probably won’t subscribe. I have way too much makeup now that I don’t use… But I really do think they will do well.

I can totally relate and I definitely think they’ll do well!

Hi Erica! I love your blog, have been following for a few months now and love your posts. You are lovely!

I am intrigued by the Essence Beauty Box, I think I may try it, considering it’s geared towards women of color. But, I plan to wait until I see some reviews first.

      Thank you so much!

I think that is a great idea. I’m curious to see what’s in the first box.

I personally think they should have made a box full of items that came from black owned businesses. Those brands are in every other box out there. We shall see how it goes.
