I’ve been trying to get my hands on this shade since the Retro Mattes Collection was released and every time it was sold out. I figured that I would try again since I had some empties laying around, so I headed over to the MAC Flagship Store in Times Square and lo and behold there was one left. The makeup gawds finally answered my prayers and after waiting all of this time Flat Out Fabulous does not disappoint. I decided to take it out for a spin this weekend.
Flat Out Fabulous is a bright plum retro matte with blue undertones. As with all matte lipsticks it is slightly dry so I highly suggest applying a lip balm first. When applied over a lip balm it glides on smooth and doesn’t dry my lips out, and it wears for a few hours leaving behind a slight stain. It is not forgiving to dry lips and will show every crack and crevice so you must exfoliate first for best results.
I don’t have any dupes of Flat Out Fabulous in my collection. At first glance it looks like a matte version of Girl About Town but GAT leans more hot pink and is warmer.
